"Caltar" lenses are notoriously confusing. Some are rebranded Schneider, some are rebranded Rodenstock, and only a few people seem to know which is which.

I am not one of those few people, unfortunately.

hello,
I try to find info on this lens, it's seems like a Sironar.
I have find more info on Caltar II, N and S who seems like Sironar-N and S.
If someone know the Caltar type-s, quality is about Symmar or Symmar-S ?
(I'm talking about Symmar because I never use a Rodenstock lens).

Thanks all.

Caltar Type S is Rodenstock Sironar. In general terms that's the same vintage/generation as Schneider Symmar.

the Type-S is made about 1973, I would prefer it's near Symmar-s than Symmar (made about 1960).

Kerry Thalmann prepared a comprehensive history of Caltar lenses in the May/June 2003 issue of View Camera.

This article identifies three groups of "S" Caltars:

A 215mm Caltar S (1967 - 1977) made by Ilex
A family of "Type S" Caltars (1970 - 1976) made by Rodenstock
A family of "Caltar-S II) lenses (1976-1980) made by Schenider

So it seems we need more information on the lens in question to know its parentage.

Don't forget about the Caltar HR's, which are Fujinons (just to muddy the waters even further). Dean

If you look at the link I posted, it has a table with the complete information on all Caltar lenses. This is the second post today where I went throught the trouble of researching and posting links only to be totally ignored.

Maybe it is the server problem shuffling things around, I don't know....

Nope, few people who respond on BBS bother to read previous responses. You may have annoyed everyone but me so much that they're all ignoring you, but I can't believe that.

Cheers,

Dan
