Calling all ADD photogs for chaotic camera journey

Ok, the plan is to get a list of names for a random excursion of some inexpensive cameras to take a chaotic journey to where ever.

The ideal camera would be something with a fixed lens and cheap film like a Minolta Freedom camera with Walgreens brand film (colour or B&W), which I just happen to have. Get a list of names and addresses together and just pick a name at random.

If you have a cheap camera and want to participate that would be good and we can keep it open to any and all comers for as long as there is interest. It would be a good idea that if the last person with the camera takes the final shot developed the film and posted it for all to see.

I saw one filme about Germany with very similar scenario as you idea. One man bought a cheap digital camera and make note on it - something like "just make photos of your city, your life ect. and leav it. When card is full - send it to ..". And the came had journey around Germany.
So - idea is nice
but what do you think about x-ray on postoffice?

I wouldn't think that it is a major problem as it should have happened by now with all of the loaded cameras being shipped by other forum members and I think we would have heard about it by now.

And what about all of the film which gets sent by post for processing? I also don't think it's a problem.

the round the world cameras work well, most of the time ...
remember sometimes things get lost in the mail, or damaged in transit
or the person it was mailed to, ummm forgot they had it for a few months ..

I would like to see if we could get enough people in on this that we could move these cameras around the world with out using the postal system, that would be cool. A sort of "across the fence" kind of thing.

Hopefully, we will get enough people involved with enough cheap cameras and film that we can let anyone interested participate. I need to figure out how to organize all of those involved that it doesn't get to confusing. The point of this endeavor is to have a camera passed on to the next person who wants it either by mail or just a hand off meeting. there should be no rhyme or reason to this exercise but to see what we can create as a group. If someone expresses and interest in this feel free to contact that person if you have a camera that you want to donate. As of now I have about 3 cameras that I am planning on loading up and getting into the mix. I picked up two yesterday at Bibles for China for about $3.00. If someone wants me to pass the camera off to them I need your address. If you are close to Memphis TN, Little Rock AR or Jackson MS let me know as I travel to those cities on and almost daily basis. Lets have some fun with this.

The idea is simple really. We are putting a new spin on an old idea by taking P&S cameras that aren't worth a lot, loading them up with cheap 35mm film qnd sending them around to were ever and seeing what kind of pictures we can get. If you have an old P&S you will be able to fin someone here you can send it to. If you don't have one don't worry there should be someone sending you one soon enough. When you get a camera or if you have one take a couple shots of anything and nothing in particular then find someone on the list and get it to them. I would like to keep this low budget so if there is someone near you, make arrangment to meet up and hand it off.
This goes out to everyone, it would be a good idea to pack cameras in a good sturdy box with good packing. USPS frowns on re using one of there boxes so I personally avoid using them for that reason. They should be boxed even if you are doing a hand off that way they are always boxed. This is just a suggestion so use your best judgement. The point is to have fun and see what we can come up with, remember, this is all as random as we can make it.

I want to play too but I'm from Ukraine - is it okay? Also I have couple of singleuse camera - used but with able to load film. I will try to load film, exposure it and develop it. If camera will work fine - I can send my camera too

Chaotic Camera Club

I have been getting plenty of people messaging me that want to be involved, that's great. I would like to get this to be something self perpetuating by having those with a point and shoot giving a shout out here and letting those that want to participate message them so that arrangements can be made to move a camera along.

The idea to do a hand off to someone close by is basically just to try to keep the cost of shipping down so that it does not become a financial burden on participants.

I have had several people IM me from EU countries that want to be involved. My only concern with that is the cost of shipping. As big as APUG is, I would think that there are people that travel between the major countries that could get involved with this and help getting cameras around the world.
I used to drive over the road cross country and I moved plenty of items to others in one of the forums that I was involved with, granted it took longer than USPS but it allowed me to meet other members face to face and we got a big kick out of it.

There is nothing here that is set in stone and that is good, it allows us to come up with imaginative solutions to problems that would normally stop others. Anyone with an idea about how to keep shipping cost down should speak up, let's hear it.

One of the reasons I started this is that most of these "traveling camera" threads have a tendency to limit participants to an "X" number of people and those not directly involved must live vicariously through the post of those that are like a voyeur. I would like to have everyone that wants to get involved to be able to do so by keeping this free flowing an unlimited by the number of cameras involved. I think that this adds to the chaotic nature of this thread and keeps people on their toes.

Let's have fun with this people.

Who wants a camera? I have several people that have cameras to get this thing rolling and I have several that are ready to go as well.

I've seen this kind of thing done with single-use cameras, where each recipient is allowed to take 1 picture. If you use anything more complicated than a single use camera, make sure all recipients will be able to figure it out...something like a box brownie might need some instructions with it.

What we are using is the simple point and shoot cameras that use 35mm film and can be reused. A Brownie camera is not as simple and a lot of times uses different sized films. We are trying to keep it simple for the fun of it, are you interested?

I'm not interested in participating, but I will be interested in the results.

It has been slow getting this off the ground but it appears that we have a few cameras starting to do some traveling. I sent a camera to Valerie in TX and there are a few more members that have got cameras going to different parts of the world.

If we could get those that have gotten cameras sent of to build on the list of what is going where and to whom.
