Hey Krystyna... thanks for your encouragement. I did not mean to make this thread about "me", but I do appreciate everyone's kind words. I will continue to shoot and print, and I think Georgia O'keefe had it right!! Words to live by!!

Having joined a camera club last year, I've been seeing the various tastes of judges. Some can like or dislike images for totally bizarre reasons.

The 4 I entered are in my gallery - the new version of "Them ole boots", "impending storm", "Pond in IR", and "Calla Cluster #2" - I'm curious which of the 4 is liked best (if any)

Next time, maybe everyone should think twice about entering this type of event where they want money up front. If my images aren't being shown, there will be no money exchanged. Don't forget to write off the amount you paid as a donation to the Gallery.

drew it is pretty common for there to be a fee for entering say up to 3 images for $30.

Hey Suzanne! I know that you did not mean to make the thread about you, it's just that we all love you and your work, and honestly - by writing and reassuring you, I was also reassuring myself, because I doubt my work at least every other day! and yeah, Georgia rocks, she inspires me a great deal! Cheers! Krystyna

So I've just finished dropping off my prints at the Brush Gallery. Couple things:1. Suzanne, you've been holding out on us! Lowell is a kewl place to photograph. Very old stone buildings with cobbledtone streets and there's this renovation going on that has so much potential.2. If you're dropping off your framed prints make sure they have corners. The gallery doesn't accept them without corners. Fortunately there's an art supply / framing shop within a 5 minute walk that sells corners.Regards, Art (I can get hooked on this instant access to APUG in the field.)

I'm all set at the Brush Gallery, as well. I submitted a CD with my images ... to be included in the Brush website at a later date.

Suzanne ... I'm still mystified as to why you weren't "judged in" ... certainly your work is of the "first water" ... but, I guess, of necessity the judging is subjective ... or they simply ran out of space.

I've seen your ads in "Beat" - (? "Middlesex Beat"?) and I continue to be impressed with your work. GOOD stuff.

I'm also impressed by the people at the Brush Gallery. At first, they seemed to be under quite a lot of stress ... but as I interact with them, it seems, more and more, that they are a "class act".

I'll be at the Reception on the 11th. Anyone care to establish a set meeting time/ place?

BTW ... Anyone remember seeing the "Canned Emotion" display? - Canned "Unresolved Issues", "Raw Nerves", "Sexual Frustration", "Black Depression"...

I plan to get there around 1:30ish? I think I'll be wearing a green sweater with a skirt (probably).

I will not be there on the 11th, but will be there on the 12th. When I dropped off my prints I saw Bethes and Arts prints there. The thing that surprised me the most was the variety that was there. From what I saw, I would be hard pressed to say what the jury was looking for.

Anxious to see it all up.

I made a brief appearance today, and saw Art, Ed and Bethe! Great show, I must say, I'm feeling better about getting "declined" because the work on the walls was excellent. Ed's, Art's and Bethe's photos looked great. I will have to go back without the little ones, and really have a better look at all the work in the coming weeks.

It was great to see you guys and hope you had a great afternoon in Lowell. It was a perfect day, today! Took my kids to this great little ice cream place around the corner. (And I've found two restaurants I want to try, too!) Lowell has really become quite a wonderful spot!!

Art and I got adventurous and tried to find a few of the other gallery spaces - one had all high school and college (and had some trad. B&W) - not bad, some of the other spaces listed were not photography. There was a restaurant on the list (now I can't remember the name - a bistro on Merrimack St.) that looked like a neat place to eat sometime, too. There were definitely some spots that looked good for photography, too. Road trip?

I visited the show yesterday, and also visited two (almost 3) of the other galleries. The quality of the stuff hanging in the Brush Gallery was great - perhaps too great as there were a couple of images that my wife really likes and it looks like this show may be more expensive than I thought that it would be....

I was impressed by the show of student work at the ALL gallery as well, some of the HS students had very interesting work, both traditional & digital, colour and B&W.

After the dust - and I settle...

The show at "The Brush" was **excellent**!! According to the organizers, they were nearly overwhelmed by the number of entries and the sheer, overall QUALITY of everything. The show was presented superbly; *well* laid out and masterfully hung.

I have to give many compliments to the Judge, Ron Rosenstock. It is usual, in a Juried show, to see the bias of the Judge/s ... and their "leaning" towards their own genre is apparent; but NOT SO here. I've seen Mr. Rosenstock's work, and he does *shatteringly* (well, I'm searching for appropriate adjectives - damned *FINE*, anyway) Landscapes, but here he had selected a wide variety of work across the photographic spectrum.
Word has it that he considered this show to be among the most difficult to judge - ever. I can easily see how that could be.
That kind of judging, with fairness, honesty and integrity is rare... and Mr. Rosenstock deserves the highest praise for his work here.
- As well as Eileen Byrne, the one behind the whole thing!

I think what I'm trying to say is "Whoo - hoo!!! What a ride!!!"

From the "look" of the Reception attendees, their number and enthusiasm, Analog is NOT dead - far from it!

BTW, ME - who does not favorably view Camera Cubs Or Art Associations in general - has DONE it! I've sprung for membership in "The Brush"!!!
I've fallen for the siren call of a "class act"!

Name "Badges"

One problem - at the Brush Reception, APUG members were not very visible.
I have at great expense - NOT - composed a Name Badge (stick-on label) incorporating the APUG logo. Easy to do.

I'll have some at the next "get-together."

Possibly - somehow - provide these for APUG members wanting them?

I walked over on my lunch break today to have a look. I was very pleased with the quality of the work presented. I ended up taking a few business cards that were there. I look forward to checking out everyone's websites. I too plan on going back to spend some more time there.

The re-birth of Lowell in general is nothing short of amazing!!

Not so many years ago, Lowell was, to put it mildly, a hell-hole; a collection of deserted, rotting and abandoned Mill buildings and tenements. It was NOT a safe place to walk after dark.

A few years ago, a core of Artists got together and petitioned the City Council (not one but many times - MANY) to dedicate funds to the Arts, not an easy task, seeing that funds were low to non-existent and there were no prospects of any kind of "profits" back to the City.
Perserverance finally triumphed over abysmally low morale, and a few Galleries and Organizations started to see a trickle of monetary support.

As always - the Arts acted as a nurturing agent, and grew, and with them the re-vitalization of the City of Lowell.

Now, it is a *fascinating* place. SAFE - and it seems that everyone you meet there is involved in some way with the arts - even the Barista in the little Coffee/ Sandwich shop we visited volunteered the information that she had abandoned d****** photography and was now only doing "analog" - and she DID call it "Analog"!!

I'm looking forward to visiting again, although it is something of a "trek" from Ipswich. I've a lunch scheduled for tomorrow with an old "Arts" friend, and our destination will be Lowell.

Springfield is kinda in the place Lowell was. And I hope that the powers that be actually talk to some of us artists this time instead of ignoring us like they did in the early 80's and mid-90's.
A funny thing happened after ZONE Art Center folded in 1995, a group of civic leaders put together a commission on the arts to help the city's image. A couple of former ZONE-ites were there for some of the meetings.
The leaders of the commission said "We need a place that does this sort of art thing." The former ZONE-ites said "You had it - it was called ZONE!"
The commission "Well we need another space that does this..."
Response form the ZONE-ites "You had it - it was called ZONE!"
The commission said "Well then, we need..."
ZONE-ites "You had it - it was called ZONE!"
This went on a couple more times with the same response from the ZONE-ites. Well can ya guess how much the commission learned from this and tried to get back what they once lost???
Nada... Nil...Zilch... Nuttin... ZZZZZZZeeeeeerrrrroooooooooo!
I hope history doesn't repeat itself, 'cause I don't want to be around a second time to close the doors on another wonderful arts organization!!
