Photo 2006
Black and White Classic
Juried Photography Show

Black and White Only... No Digital
Presented by the Brush Gallery
Lowell, MA

details here:
http://www.thebrush.org/

Although I hate to give myself more competition, and I'll be bummed if I don't make the cut, I think we should all enter!!! I certainly plan to!!

Thanks for posting this Suzanne.

If a good portion of APUG members support contests like these by entering, it sends a loud and clear message to the photo community at large. I, for one will enter, I hope I make the cut too!!

The rules, etc. for the call to entry are here:

http://www.thebrush.org/Photo2006/

One suggestion: Having volunteered to help process submisions for the state fair where I live, you would be amazed at the percentage of disqualifications because of photographers ignoring, or failing to read simple entry guidelines.

It looks like a great contest. It's too bad that if you are accepted, the works have to be hand delivered - that'll keep me from entering. But good luck, Suzanne - I hope you make it.

Peter

That's why I put this in the regional area. It may be hard for folks beyond New England to manage it, but I would agree with Jason... the more great work we can get "out there" the better for traditional processes!

Of course, it'll be hard enough with other APUGgers from New England entering, nevermind the rest of APUG!! :D

Thanks for the link. I think I may give the show a try, but I wonder what type of work they are wanting to see. I tend to shoot different subjects.

I will try to enter this competition, getting the framed piece if the work is accepted will be tough , but not impossible.
thanks for the link Suzanne

Bumping this... deadline is in 2 weeks. I have one, maybe two new images to print that I'm thinking of entering. And a couple of older ones! And Eric, though it makes me a little nervous, if you want some help getting an image submitted, PM me.

FWIW, they did this show about three years ago. I didn't really have anything that I felt confident about, but I did see the show. It's a good sized gallery, and they had accepted quite a bit of work. But, one maybe two pieces per person.

Is there a place on APUG where calls for entries for juried shows can be found? Should there be?

How about broader art shows where photography is accepted?

Bump...

Also, the openng of this show will be part of the Lowell Photography Weekend, Nov. 11-12th. Details Dead Link Removed. I'm sure a few exhibits will have d*g*t*l images, too.

Maybe we can organize a small get-together in Lowell that weekend?

BTW ...

I visited the Brush Gallery a couple of days ago. Seems like a *class* operation. I'm going to submit a few photographs ... Figure studies and possibly others. Apparently there are no severe restrictions on style or content.

Sorry...but, with this feeble mind, I'm not able to figure out what bump means.??!!

Bump, as in "Bump this to the top of the (New Posts) list"

I SHOULD be clear for those days.... and I'd love to attend.

Suggestion: The Atrium in the Cafe' of the Lowell Textile Museum - across the street and "down a ways" (telltale New England expression). Alcohol-less, but really good food with a great atmosphere.

BTW ... the Rules for THIS exhibition (there will be others in Lowell) expressly EXCLUDE ALL digital images and digital manipulation ( ???? - just discovered the double entendre' ...):

From the Brush Prospectus:

"Work will be judged from prints. prints must be on RC or fiber paper and not mounted or framed.

Black and white photographs only. Toning is permitted.

No digital may be used in any part of the creation of the work..."

Thanks for the clarification, Ed. There will be several photography exhibits and talks that weekend in Lowell at several different venues. Some of those exhibits will include d*g* stuff, but the Brush exhibit, is, as you say, all black and white prints, no digital! Yay!

Having suggested a get together, there's a chance I will be away that weekend, but I'm not sure yet!

I drove to the Brush Gallery in Lowell today, and submitted four (4) prints for the "lottery", hoping that, with luck, I'll reach someone with a similar aesthetic appreciation of my work. A $15 per each gamble.

Has anyone else here entered?

Anyone care to meet, if not at the Textile Museum Atrium Cafe', somewhere else on the opening days, Saturday, November 11th, or Sunday, the 12th?

I drove up to Lowell yesterday and entered 4 as well. I'd be game to meet on the 11th. I got sorta lost (well, just went in a few extra circles) and saw some possible places to shoot, too. Or just hang out at the cafe across the street from the visitor's center.

I dropped off four prints yesterday, too! Looks like I will be around the weekend of the 11th, so we can plan to meet at the opening from 1-3, then maybe head out for a coffee after?

Hope we all jury in, but even if I don't I'll plan to go to the opening. If nothing else, to see what I was up against!

Oh. boy!!! Looks like I have some **SERIOUS** competition. Ah,, well ... if I don't survive the "first cut" ... It will be understandable.

I did a Google search about the judge - Ron Rosenberg. It will be interesting to compare his work to the work he selects.

Sure ... I'd love to meet with youse guys at the opening - and wherever.
Can we fine tune the time or ?

Geez, I sure wish I were closer to Boston. You guys have had some excellent events and this juried exhibition would have been a very attractive thing to enter. I met Ron Rosenstock at the VC conference two years ago. He seems to be a very good guy, and after teaching for (I think) 25 years, is probably very disposed to being fair and competent in his assesments.

Best of luck to you all!

I'm not expecting to get any images in, but that doesn't matter. I had the guts to enter stuff and that's something. I agree with Suzanne - meet at the opening then go for coffee and maybe shooting afterwards?

Rosenstock... THAT'S his name!!!

I hope he didn't read my last post...
