Can somebody tell me the recipie for caffinol, caffinol-c and caffinol plus?
also development times for tri-x?
what results will i achive?

Did you try using the search feature?
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Look inthe recipes section
or google caffenol aka caffeinol

Tri-X should be done in 45 minutes or so, and you can expect pictures on your film

Actually you don't really need a formula.
Just make a pot of coffee and leave it on the warmer for a few hours. Let it cool and put the Tri-X in it for about 45 minutes.
The negative will be thin, but print beautifully.

Don't forget to add sodium carbonate in your coffee ^^

can't be good coffee either. arabaca beans are too good, you need
instant-gut-rot ( read: rubusto beans ) ...

You're a bit young for coffee, so don't drink it, just put film in it.

I think it was Patrick Gainer who figured out that the caffeine isn't relevant to the activity of the developer, but on the other hand, espresso might have a more concentrated level of whatever is the developing agent.

When I tried it I used some old instant coffee that had been in the back of a drawer in my office for probably more than 10 years.

What?... People actually drink that stuff?...... No thanks, I'll stick to tea!

Steve.

could tannic acid (tannin) be the developer for this one?

I have only tried Caffenol once (last month) with a roll of FP4+ and I was surprised at how good it was. Whilst it would not replace my usual developer, If I had a roll to process and I realised I had run out of 'normal' developer, I would definately make up some Caffenol.

Caffenol is fun to play around with, but don't expect to use it as a regular developer. It takes too damn long to soup anything in it. I'm going to try stand developing some Tri-X in it within the next couple of days. I'm curious to see how well that works.

Edit: Or well, semi-stand. I'm going to try for 85 minutes with agitation every 5 minutes.

I need ro read up on this, but it sounds a simple as dropping a roll of film into a Starbuck's Vente Latte (no whip) and taking a sip every few minutes :D

How about doing one of William Mortensen's experiments which was to develop the film for a week or more or "until just before the emulsion falls off" !!!

Have fun,

Lachlan

Heh. Not quite...but mmm...latte.

I'm going to do this two ways, actually. I'm going to use regular Caffenol-C made with washing soda for half the roll and then Caffenol-C made with baking soda for the other half. I figure that it would be an interesting experiment within an experiment. I love experimentation...it's what makes black and white photography so great.

I think I read somewhere that if you use baking soda, you need to use about twice the quantity.

That would explain why my Diet Mountain Dew experiments have been largely unsuccessful so far. I wonder if the slight activity I did get was from the caffeine or the (buffered) ascorbic acid.

BTW, it's scary how hard it is to raise the pH on Mountain Dew. I'm glad I don't drink the stuff. The color also seems to be pH sensitive.

Could be. Speculation has pointed toward catechol or some variant thereof. It produces negs that look a lot like ABC pyro negs, but with less contrast.

Hrm. I wonder what upping the soda content would do...

*mad scientist hat*

:D

A previous article in the old UK Darkroom user magazine mentioned using coffee as a film dev, and that catechol is one of the chemicals in roasted coffee-handy!
