I think it was Patrick Gainer who figured out that the caffeine isn't relevant to the activity of the developer, but on the other hand, espresso might have a more concentrated level of whatever is the developing agent.
When I tried it I used some old instant coffee that had been in the back of a drawer in my office for probably more than 10 years.
Edit: Or well, semi-stand. I'm going to try for 85 minutes with agitation every 5 minutes.
Caffenol is fun to play around with, but don't expect to use it as a regular developer. It takes too damn long to soup anything in it. I'm going to try stand developing some Tri-X in it within the next couple of days. I'm curious to see how well that works.

I'm going to use regular Caffenol-C made with washing soda for half the roll and then Caffenol-C made with baking soda for the other half.
