Cable Release Socket Button? Does It Exist?

I recently bought a Rolleicord III. I like the camera, got its shutter speeds back to mostly normal using lighter fluid and exercise.

After running a few rolls through I came to the conclusion that I don't really like the shutter lever all that much. You swing it to the right to cock it and move to the left in neutral then push a little further left to activate shutter. It's loose and not the best shutter I've used.

I was wondering if there is a device out there that screws into the cable release and works like a button like on my Yashica Mats. The socket is in a good location for this.

Any ideas?

They aren’t easy to find and often not inexpensive, but keep an eye on eBay. They turn up from time to time. Honestly, though… I didn’t find it much better than the regular release.

They used to be supplied with Miranda cameras. I think 99.9% have been lost, but you might be able to find one.

Probably cheaper to find a Miranda that still has one, buy it, take the release off and then sell the camera on. You can see one on the top deck:

Advantage: its body much smaller built than any other such buttons.
BUT the plunger is much shorter than at all other models I have seen on the net. Maybe it is too short.

I think it would be too short. My original Rolleicord release is:
Idle - 3.5mm
Extended - 9mm

Another issue with the Miranda one is that its barrel protrudes about a millimeter over the already short thread. Which means that often one will not even be able to screw it in.
I am glad that I found my sample, but its use may be restricted. I shall have to look into this matter.

A issue with the models with longer plunger is that there is one model on sale on the net that got the american, thus straight thread.
