Hi,
I have a wonderful old Hasselblad Superwide from 1956. I would like to get a cable release to use with it, but it has a non-standard mount, much bigger than modern-day shutter cables. Does anyone know if such cables are still available anywhere or maybe even an adapter? The diameter of the screw mount is about 5mm.
Thanks, Hal

Is it a male thread? It sounds about right for a Leica nipple that screws onto a standard CR.

The camera has a female thread, that is the cable release or adapter would require a male thread with a diameter of about 5mm. It looks like the Leica nipple is the other way around (at least from the picture at B&H).

I have attached a picture of the Superwide with the release mount.

I assume this is the same as the 1000f. There was an adapter made which allows use of a standard release.
The adapter should be easy for a minimachinist to make.
If all else fails the camera could be sent to me for safe destruction :D

Noting Marks comment about easily made adapters, I have to agree.
Keeping in mind that I am not a machinist, He put an idea into my head(dangerous).
Determine the thread of the CR-- go to the local hardware, & buy a screw & nut that fits the thread. Drill through the screw & install a CR into it. The CR can be epoxied into the screw & the nut becomes a depth adjustment.

John, the suggestion sounds good, but unfortunately the Superwide mount does not have a standard thread. It is very steep (if that is the correct word), meaning that a single turn traverses a longer distance than normal screws seem to have. So I don't think I could find anything at the hardware store that would fit and certainly would hate to destroy the thread after it has survived for 52 years ...

Hi Hal.
It may be time to visit your local machinist, he probably needs to make a boat payment.:D
Having him make an adapter to fit the camera & a standard CR may be the most expedient course.
You know that if you have it made, another will show up at your doorstep don't you?
