My Horseman 980 arrived today - and what a beautiful piece of machinery it is.

I noted that a regular shutter release cable doesn't fit. For those that aren't familiar, there isn't the traditional screw-in type, but simply a sort of tube that the cable release sits in, with a screw to grip the cable release in place. The diameter of the tube is about 6.5mm and the screw doesn't come anywhere near my traditional cable release.

Is there a special type of cable I need for this, or an adapter? Is it specific to Horseman to common to all large-format-type shutters? I had a look on eBay but couldn't find anything suitable.

Mine has an adapter but all three of my lenses are solenoid equipped and I have the power grip so I haven't fiddled with a regular cable release.. I bought it to hand hold with 2 1/4x3 1/4 sheets..I'll try to remember to look at it and snap a pic..EC

There is a little adapter. Sometimes when you buy lenses, they will have the adapter already in there by the previous owner and you can take it out and use it on all your lenses. The second option is the Horseman cable release that fits right in the hole without screwing in.
The part number for the adapter is 25532 and the cable release is 25532. You can see pictures of them in the Horseman 1988 catalog page 26 on this website: http://www.cameraeccentric.com/html/info/horseman_2.html

Gotcha, I see. Is your adapter like the one pictured here? http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/2/6/1/6/1/6/webimg/461288575_o.jpg

I can't see anything like it on eBay and I've search for all terms I can think of. Do you know if they have a specific name?

Yes that has the adapter in the hole. If you buy that lens, you can screw the adapter to you cable release and use the one adapter in all your Horseman lenses. That is a nice lens BTW, I have that one. People say that one covers 4x5, but in real life, it is the 120 that really covers 4x5. When I put that 105 on my Horseman 4x5 it clips the corners.

I'm not sure where else you would get the adapter, other than on a lens (that is where I got mine). KHB may be able to get one from Horseman.

Thanks for assorted advice, people. I've worked around the problem by buying a regular cable release and wrapping the end in a few layers of electrical tape. It is now thick enough to be held securely by the clamp on the Horseman, and doesn't even look too bad
