I feel like a thief. My local portrait photographer is selling of some stuff. I got the mat cutter of my dreams for about $150. It cuts and mats up to 36". Now I have to do larger prints

Nice buy. I paid full retail for mine and am still pleased with it. I cut mostly Westminster Rag board with it for B&W work. I had a problem with hooking that drove me nuts. I tried a number of their blade but steered clear of the 1200SE blade since it was not only a single edged blade but it was a single bevel blade which means you can only use one corner before discarding the blade. This went against my Scottish blood!

Well, I noticed another photographer using the 1200SE blade and asked about it. She told me that it did away with the hooking problem. I switched and the problem immediately went away!

How many cuts do you get with the single edge blade? I steered clear of them too but maybe I should have another look.

I will cut 6-10 window mats for 11x14 matboard, and then change blades. The cost per mat is pretty small.

I have been fooling and really doing some hard cutting. I find a half dozen 8X10 (cutout size) and the blade gets really ragged (a dozen if I count turning it). And yes, you do have to crimp the back if it is not. It gets out of alignment pretty quick. Have not checked the cost of blades yet. Got two dozen single edged ones with the machine. Any good sources of reasonable priced blades on the internet?

An extra hint... I found snapping off a chunk of olfa blade (3 segments) fits the 90 deg cutter. And as I am only trimming mats to size it really works fine.

Konical, beginning of this month I got a laminate covered 4' by 8' work table. That's why I jumped at the cutter. Something to fill the table !

The C&H and Fletcher cutters seem to be the real deal, when compared to the Logans, etc.

ace hardware has double sided blades that fit the C&H and are much cheaper. They are not sold as mat cutting blades. When you see them you will wonder why you didn't go that route before. I can cut 4 window matts per corner, so that translates to 16 matts cut before I toss the blade. I could get more, but I want a really sharp blade when I make the cuts. The price of those blades go well with my frugal Danish nature.

before you buy any cutter check out the Longridge cutting system, it is the best that I have ever used.

Like Thomas I got a fantastic deal on my C&H mat cutter. I got the 48" version with guide arms, only a year old, for a whopping $97. Only time I love digital is when I can get deals like that.
