It seems that C-41 labs are dropping like flies. The last one closed in my town 6 months ago. So I'm looking for a lab to do develop & scan 35mm C-41 film.

I can mail to anywhere in the lower 48 states USA. Who do you recommend?

Thanks!

I do my own now due to basically similar reasons. but I have used pcraft.com in the past with good results. Of course they don't develop themselves anymore but they still take the film and send it out somewhere else but they are accountable and professionals. By the way they wont be ship

NCPS has reasonable pricing and I like their scans. They scan the whole roll at a reasonable resolution. It might be cheaper elsewhere if you get low res scans and then only get a high res scan of particular images.

Walgreens prices are great, but their scans are very low resolution. I've also heard of issues with poor handling of negatives/scratching and whatnot. I only use them for stuff I don't care about, so I never looked closely at my negs for damage.

PM me for details. Prices vary depending on quantity.

Am I the only one too nervous to mail their negs?

No. It's why I got into C-41 in the first place. It's also (partly) why I don't shoot much slide film. I'm not doing E-6 at home, and the last time I sent two rolls out, I got one roll back. That I can't (easily) print slide film is the other reason I'm not shooting much of it.

Just process your own. It really is not hard. It's just 2 chemical really and you don't even have to wash in-between!

Really, processing your own isn't difficult.

I use the Tetenal kits and the results are always consistent and very good. Despite a general feeling that everything is incredibly critical in processing C41 colour you can process at lower temperatures and that allows more control, and if you get things wrong like the temperature drops or something it doesn't mean you get nothing, you just dont get consistency.

I only use scans like proof sheets, so just order up med res JPEG's, which are quite affordable. You'll pay a lot more for a serious scan. And
the smaller the film, the better the scan you need to make accurate evaluations about color etc. I notice that the local lab I use for this kind
of service has posted some ads on this forum, namely, Photolab here in Berkeley, CA. They do quick turnaround on film up to 120, a bit longer on large format C41. Nice folks, and convenient for me, since I'm just four blocks away from them. But clear across the country from
you. Otherwise, everything C41 and E6 is still readily available here on the West coast.

Film processing and printing in the Atlanta area!

I've been meaning to try these folks who are sorta almost kinda LOCAL to you and me! (I'm here in Jonesboro GA.) http://www.dunwoodyphoto.com/ Not only do they handle C 41, but also, wonder of wonders, E 6. And BW. All processes available for 35mm and 120/220, and amazingly enough, 4 x 5 for BW and E 6.

When I lived in Atlanta, I used to bring my film to E-Six lab on 14th street (I think). Of course, that was a long time ago.

Closed! And, BTW, Wolf Camera is but a tiny shadow of its former self. I enjoyed their C 41 processing and friendly, knowledgeable staff at their store barely a mile from me here in Jonesboro. Sic transit gloria mundi, or some such.
