C-41 120 Processing at Walmart Jan 2013

About two years ago, I processed several C41 rolls through Wal-Mart. It was impressivly cheap, and the prints appear optically printed.

I was pleasantly surprised. These prints are actually pretty good for proofs.

I quit using them though when I saw my negatives coming back with a staple in the end of each roll. It caused marring of whatever negative happened to be next to it in the sleeve. I haven't used them since.

Still, it is head and shoulders better for proof prints than anything I have locally.

Just a quick update regarding the proofs. Currently they are not optical proofs and they are terrible. The 6x4 prints that I received from 6x4.5cm Portra 160 looked awful. They did not show the resolution or tonality of the film. The proofs are just so you can get an idea of what the image on the film looks like. Even with a budget scanner like the Epson V500 you will get better results. I personally like getting the proofs because then I only scan in a handful of images, but don't judge the quality of your negatives based solely on the current proofs.
