Check out their used inventory... practically nothing there!! Are they getting out of the used photo market? Or did some Asian or European reseller buy them out?

I shop there all the time. The storefront is definitely new-oriented, but they have loads of used stuff. I've bought stuff that wasn't in the system, so I know there is a lot of stuff that isn't cataloged. They have a basement and one or two trailers behind the store filled with used stuff. Send them an email or call and ask for Jim if you're looking for something specific.

They've never kept an updated and accurate inventory, and neither has Quality Camera. If you look at either businesses used inventory and turnover, it just couldn't be easily done, much less cost effectively - I'd guess it would take the better part of a full-time person to do it and the site would have to be updated daily. That makes it difficult for people not close enough to drop in regularly, but that's the way it is. I know Midwest's inventory has been "thin" lately, but seems to be because they're well known and a lot of people buy from them.

I was at Quality Camera in late summer, and Jeff had a good and diverse inventory of LF items including a Kodak 305 poartrait, a 10-1/2" 3.8 Vitax, a 10-1/2" f/4.5 Cooke knuckler, several used Ries tripods, some ULF filmholders and filmholder cases, and he'd just bough out a couple of studios so he had the usual multicoated Rodenstocks, Schneiders, Nikkors, and Fujis galore. The used camera inventory was a little thin, but I've been there before when it was not.

Cheers, Steve

The reason I'm asking is because their on-line listed inventory nearly disappeared overnight. I'll email them with specific requests. Thanks!!

Maybe this is one of those "if you snooze, you lose" situations?? I've snoozed, and lost; but sometimes I have jumped on something and lost too. These situations make me very happy when I get what I want!

Hopefully the email will work.

I just spoke to Jim at Midwest to order some things. He notes that their web site had some problems over the weekend and deleted a bunch of stuff.

He said they will continue to support large format and that the current stock level is good. He has immense knowledge of the field and is thoroughly honest.

I can't find a company that seems to resemble what you are talking about.
Or is that the new store front thing?
