Buying scanners from China

Hi. Does anyone have experience buying scanners from China? I'm considering buying a Noritsu scanner from there and I just wanted to find out more information. Any advice, suggestions, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I bought an HS-1800 from china. It was packed very well in a wooden crate. I bought it via eBay using PayPal so I had protection. There were some issues, however. The 35mm carrier would not calibrate and that carrier also had an issue with one of the film sensors. The seller connected with me over a video call to try and troubleshoot. In the end, they sent me a new LED light source and carrier. The EZ Controller software was a copy with a hacked dongle. It worked on the supplied computer, but when I tried to install it on my personal computer my virus protection lit up. I ended up finding a legit copy of EZ.
Finally, they didn’t tell me that it was a converted machine and not an original 1800. I mean, it works the same it’s really no big deal but it turned out to be an older machine than the listing implied. Would I do it again, probably not, and although the machine is still working it was just a pain in the ass to resolve the issues. The seller's name is mervynzhou2016.

Are you asking about dealing with sellers in Japan, or scanners made there?

I don't think the Noritsu scanners are made in China and I think the OP is talking about used scanner from a lab. The Noritsu scanner is not intended for home use.

Noritsu is a Japanese holding company what was once associated with photo processing machines, now with inkjet photo lab and traditional photo lab systems, and commercial printing products.

This may not apply to residents of the Philippines, but this is my take on it:

Years ago I gave up buying anything expensive outside the US due to problems if a return was needed. The cost and the uncertainty of tracking after it left the US just made it too high of a risk. Returning a Leica lens to Canada was a huge hassle, it cost a lot of $$$'s, and I can only imagine if something like a big scanner arrived kaput. Then, there's possible carrier/shipping damage. Not for the feint of heart, it's more of a gambler's thing.

Paypal is no help either. The seller has the right to ask that you send something back in order to get a refund. That, along w/ tracking and insurance, whew, hate to see what that might run on a Noritsu scanner.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I have the same fears about buying overseas but it's close to impossible to find any scanners here in the Philippines but thanks again for the insight.

Same with nbagno. There's a lot of risks importing but we really need to get better scanners to improve our lab (started a small lab here in the Philippines). I guess I'm just hoping to hear from people who experienced differently but thank you for the advice nonetheless _

I advise you to disregard this idea.
This scanner is very expensive, the dominant in this field are Pakistani and Indian technicians and traders, the price of a scanner that can work on a desktop computer with the original licensed application, is in the range of £ 10,000. Yes, the number is correct, as I read it
