Busy streets in Montreal ?

I'm in Montreal next week and this is the city were I started in street photography some years ago.
i meet nice APUG member on my previous visit and I rate Montreal above Toronto where I'm more often, for many other reasons.
Yet, I don't know Montreal core in all of the details.
My question is.
Where could I find pedestrians present as the real crowd? I'll be working in Griffintown, Rue Ottawa and I could walk almost anywhere after work.

Hello,

Place des arts metro. Right outside and around it. That whole neighborhood.

Otherwise it would be Ste-Catherine street, from Metro Berri all the way to Metro Guy. You would actually cross Place des Arts during that mile-long walk.

I'm sure you already know, but please be aware of the different laws for public photography in Quebec, basically consent is required in cases where it would not be in other provinces/us states.

For crowds by numbers St Catherine St is probably the best. Also Rue St Paul and Place Jacques Cartier in Old Montreal can be busy but more touristy. As an alternative, Boul St Laurent, Rue St Urbain and Rue St Denis can be busy and are I think a bit less mainstream. The Jean Talon market is busy on the weekend. You'll see a lot of orthodox Jewish people around Rue St Viateur. Don't know if they are sensitive about being photographed. I'm not really into street photography myself. Good bread at Guillaume on St Laurent and good beer at Dieu du Ciel around the corner on Ave Laurier Ouest. Enjoy!

as far as I can tell, shots for "editorial use" (this includes artistic reasons) which aren't part of a newsworthy event, require consent. This was given as an example of a shot that needs consent because a private citizen was the main subject of the photo. http://www.francisvachon.com/blog/zen/

The gist seems to be that if there's a newsworthy event (eg car accident) and you take photos of it, anyone in the photo doesn't need to give consent because it is newsworthy.

The other type of photo is editorial, which is any "this is just what was happening on this street at this time" photo. If you were taking a picture of a scupture and 20 people looking at the sculpture ended up in the photo, you don't require consent because they have accidentally ended up in your photo where the sculpture is the main subject.

If you make a person the main subject, you require consent.

Now do most Montrealers know these rights and do they care? Maybe not.

So if your situation doesn't fall within the relatively clear exceptions, expect to need consent.

Every time I'm in Montreal I going at one of the le 3 brasseurs locations and if I'm working at Griffintown location where is brasseurs de montreal. I think, I went to Brewtopia once, but never to place you have mentioned.
