I'm thinking about building a roller base with a motor. My jobo drum has a magnetic base, I was thinking I could attach another magnet to a motor shaft and couple it to the base. Do you think a 25W motor could turn my 2840 jobo drum? Or do I need something more powerful?

Any reason not to just buy an existing motorized roller base?

Yes I can't find any here in Europe. Also a motor costs few euros. Actually I just got a 12v windscreen wipers motor for free. Now I just need to buy a DC power supply

When I was still at school, I made one almost like this, but it was motorized:

The motor was attached to the board and had some kind of hub fitted to its shaft. It was positioned near one of the wheels so that the hub exerted just enough pressure on the wheel to make it spin - you'll have to carefully adjust it to get just the right pressure. You may find that the drum tends to move to one side and even hop off. If that happens, you can attach a bracket or something at one end of the board to stop the drum moving too far. Mine rotated in only one direction, but that was no problem with either Ciba or color prints from negatives. If you prefer, you can set it up with an electronic timer that periodically changes the direction - there are many instructions on the web for that.

I made one almost exactly like this, but longer. I have a 12v motor. I need to buy a 220v->12v psu and a dimmer of some sort to adjust the m speed. I hope to get it to work soon

finally got myself the power supplay for the 12v motor. I tested it and it runs, now I ordered a PWM dimmer to control the motor speed, soon I'll be assembling all the parts!
