Brovira for lith?

I just got six packets of 20x24 in Agfa Brovira papers in different grades from a shop when I bought a dark room tray!

I thought it might be good for lith printing since I have had good luck with old papers with lith before and I have seen people talking about it together with lith printing. But as I recall Brovira is a cold tone paper, right? What kind of results should I expect? Colours etc. It is too old to be in any of the Rudman-books I have.

Let us know. I would not expect Brovira to lith well but it is good for solarization.

Well...don't know how you were printing it Mr Carnie, but I've had success printing brovira in lith. Maybe if I can get a friend to lend me a digital camera I'll post some prints made with it. If I remember right, it liked a cleaner developer. I used kodak super rt with no old spent stuff added. The colors were not too wild printed straight lith but the flavor of cold/warm split it gives could be useful for some image.

What we consider lith success could be quite different.
compared to Oriental G4 or Maco rf2 or fotospeed lith I found brovira quite dissapointing.
There are those who say Ilford WT does not lith and I prefer it for certain applications above all.
I use Nova Lith and have not seen good results in any of the Agfa papers as well as Ilford nuetral tone,Oriental VC and some of the Kentmere papers.

I just found out I don't have a tray that can take 20x24. I don't want to cut them up, so I guess I will have to go back to the shop and buy a couple of larger trays. Maybe they will give me some more old paper stock

Brovia and Lith

I don't know if you can call this success or not. It's all in the eyes of the beholder. I know I like the results, and that others detest them.

Fotospeed LD20 developer at 1+30 dilution at 75*F. Processing time in developer about 30 minutes.

"whats up with the toning"

Hey Mr Carnie,

It's toned in selenium, I have no idea how strong cause I have been using the same jug for quite a few years and just add a bit when it when it slows down. You can see the warm/cool split is similar to oriental seagull where the cool tones creep in first and then the warm comes in like and infection. Toning kinda has a snatch point just like printing. The sky area doesn't really show and color change from the selenium and that's why it has more than just a 2 tone split.

Like I said a very nice result. Funny though that the building*open shade* dosent pick up too much of the selenium but the cloud*open shade* does, and looking at the image the side of the building is a lower tone and one would think it would tone faster than the clouds. Kind of gives it a tri toned look which is very nice.

The clouds don't show the effect of the selenium. The selenium first shows things going blue and then brown. the shaded area on the building is completely effected by the selenium and shows the split pretty good. it can be one heck of an ugly combo.

Very nice Mateo.
Bob, you see this same tri colour split with other cadmium papers (Looking at this result, I believe Brovira probably had Cd - not sure, it wasn't a paper I used much, but other Agfa papers did of course so it seems likely).
The only current paper I know of that does this is Fomatone MG, possibly the last Cd paper. By the time the shadows have gone brown, the mid tones are a grey-blue and the light values still a pinky or pale magenta.
