Use extension tubes

I'm recently told by an experienced Hassy repairman NOT to use extension tubes, since they can damage the camera or lens.

Hasselblad makes extension tubes. The tubes must be placed on the camera body and then the lens added on. The lens is removed first, then the tube. If the tube and lens are removed as a unit damage can occur. Like everything else RTFM*

I remember one of the photographers who I assisted telling me this, when I first started with him; he'd learned the hard way and had *never* forgotten - hence he made sure to tell all new assistants exactly the same thing, regardless of whether they had indicated 'Blad experience or not.

That way he knew, that we had been given the correct information on how to attach and remove extension tubes - if we then proceeded to damage the gear, we would have no-one to blame but ourselves, if we got the sack.

My first reaction on reading that was, "like everything else Hasselblad, way more complicated than it needs to be and if you get it wrong repairs or at least extra work needed."

I bought a fool-proof camera once. It was guaranteed absolutely fool-proof. I never had the chance to try though. Every time I reached for it... it moved away from my hands.

I sure like my Bronica S2a that I had for years and got some very nice photos with it. I had several lenses and a pretty full selection of accessories.

But the 1/40th flash sync was a downer, and I felt that couldn't use it except on a tripod.

They did have the Nikkor-Q 105mm f:3.5 LS leaf shutter lens, which isn't as versatile as an all-leaf shutter system, but offered an option that was useful in a fair number of portrait situations where you might want a faster sync speed. Here's a test shot made with that lens, Bronica S2A, on Fuji MS 100/1000 transparency film, in full sun with a Norman portable strobe unit as fill, mounted on a bracket on the camera:

Read The Full Manual ??

Four letters starting with 'f', vowel and two different consonants. You have the right pattern but the wrong letters.

Roger, you are really reaching on this one. One can break any camera by not following the instructions. Even yours. I am willing to fly out to you and demonstrate this principle on your cameras.

Not precisely... Read The (F***ing) Manual. Hint: The missing letters are u, c, and k.

I knew, but "friendly" or "full" sounds so much nicer.
And looking at the manual with my "new 2nd hand" car the word "full" has a total new meaning:
over 100 pages on the "radio-computer-navigation-but-no-coffee-unit" alone ...

Oh I'm sure, but by just putting on or taking off extension tubes in the wrong order? And what's that well known problem with getting the lens locked to the body?

I used to really want a Hasselblad but the more I read the more I think my M645 Pro, and maybe an RZ67 if I want to go 6x7, suits me just fine for MF.

You can certainly damage my cameras by dropping, forcing etc. but I don't think any of them can be damaged just by manipulating the controls gently but incorrectly (exception - the flash synch and self timer on my Yashicamat 124 and that's incredibly dumb but not that likely to happen unless you were just fooling around.)

I meant of equipment equipment damage from being stupid. I'm stupid these days so I need stupid-proof equipment. Hasselblad ain't stoopid-proof.
