New to me SQB. I loaded with film. Advanced it to 1. I followed the instructions. Aimed, focused, fired. Tried to advance. No advance. Locked up tight. When I loaded the film everything worked perfect between the film crank and the camera. not after firing the shutter.

Removed back. Put it on multiple exposure and everything worked great. Strangely it all worked great on mirror lock up without the film back on too. I didn’t think that was supposed to happen.

Multiple exposure was not left on.

Seller swears he shot with it the day before shipping. When it got here the package was damaged. Everything in it seems fine except for this. . Thoughts?

Have you checked the battery ?
I have the ETRSi that's battery dependant .
However with that if the batteries flat it will still fire , but 1/500th sec ( IIRC)

That wouldn't stop me winding on though .
I've not used the SQ range , and not sure how they behave regarding batteries . But just a thought .

If you've received something that doesn't work , it needs to go back .
You say the packaging was damaged , was the camera wrapped up well enough to have prevented damage to it despite the outer packing being damaged ?
If not , there's where the problem starts .

Camera is at the repair shop. According to them it “might not be fixable.” But they will dig into it. The issue is this caused by the usps damage or a bad seller.

Exactly the same problem here. Only read a few small bits but haven't found the solution yet. Communication pins in film back all good.
Synchronous running of lens and body is good.
Rewind new film to first frame well and take photo well at first frame and then fasten and do not rotate to second frame.
Body opened but be careful with this before you unscrew the two clamps for the back and they end up loose in the body.
2 screws left and right of the chrome clamps where the back clicks in.
The catch that ensures that you can wind to frame two has been found but is somehow not returned to the correct position. Only a little manual sliding and winding is possible again.
When disassembling the side where the button is to release the entire back, a spring fell out and it is not equipped with a curved end for mounting on something. Anyone an idea where? or someone one or more pictures of the Bronica SQ-A
This camera was bought by someone in this very bad condition as an introduction to medium format and therefore a bad start.
When I read this on a sales site where the owner had offered it for sale, I offered it to try to repair it at my expense.
To be continued and hopefully a working Bronica SQ-A again soon

Camera is back and works very well. The repair guy said it was a mess of dried up everything and a very thorough CLA was all it needed.

I’m a happy camper now.

Repairers that will work on a Bronica are few and far between. Mind mentioning who you had work on yours? My ETRSi and GS-1 are currently working fine, but it would be useful to know.

The camera has been made working again by mounting another catch on the detent that puts the pin of the film back in the correct position.
Know it is not an official repair but it works and the owner is happy with it.
The spring was off the battery cover.
