Hello,

I am thinking of buying a speed grip for my Bronica SQ-A, but the grip's motor drive is not working currently.

If I put this grip on my camera, will I still be able to use the manual winder on my camera. I don't need the winder to work, I'd just like to have a handle to hold onto.

I hope I stated my question clearly.

Thanks!!

Nope. To mount the grip you take the winding arm off and the grip couples in its place and you wind with a thumb lever on the grip.

Sounds to me you are not looking at a speed grip but an actual motor drive. A speed grip has no motor, it's just a handle with a thumb advance linkage built in to it, and as jstraw says the crank handle has to come off.

OK, Thanks! I'll save my money for something that actually works!

Find you a real speed grip. It makes handling a Bronica almost as easy as a 35mm for balance. While the thumb advance may not be as fast as a quick wind of the crank it keeps the hand close by the shutter button built into the handle.
The main reason I wound up getting a motor drive is it runs the camera off its onboard batteries, so now I can replace the batteries at any convenience mart with AA's instead of the expensive ones the SQA (6 volt) and the SQAi (4 flat cells, very expensive!) were designed to use. It will be a while before the drive pays for itself financially but that it far outweighed by the convenience factor.
