Bronica ETRSi Sync Speed

Hi I am new to flash photography. I read the manual and it says the camera syncs at all speed. I don't have the TTL. I figured if I have a strobe or flash I will have the GN and with the distance I can figure out the F number. But now which shutter speed I should use on Bronica?

They use leaf shutters in the lens so can synch at any speed, you can balance flash exposure against ambient light exposure easily.

Like Ian suggests it's up to you.

In doors you might want to drag the shutter. outdoors you might want to go higher speed.

I use a metz 60ct with mine and have the ttl cable. Initially I did some test rolls and found the TTL to work pretty well. With strobes, just meter the lights and set the camera accordingly.

You are actually making two exposures - one for ambient light, one for flash. Use both shutter speed and aperture to control the ambient exposure. The flash only depends on aperture because the flash pulse is much shorter than the shutter speed.

If you have purchased a flash yet, I would recommend a Vivitar 283 or similar. I use one on my SQa and just set the flash to a specific aperture and set the camera to the same. The shutter speed is set according to whether I am balancing the background ambient exposure or not. Works real easy, especially for outdoor fill flash. As was said above, the aperture controls the exposure from the flash, not the shutter speed.

Metz flashes are so cheap on the used market makes sense to pick one up. Later on find the TTL module. More power. More features. Plus it can be cheaper. The handle mount flashes can even be used like a handle.
