Hi,

I want to try bromoil process. I need bleach for this. I find in one store moersch bleach (like in attached picture). Is this okay for bromoil (only last bottle in picture)?

It is hard for me to buy chemistry (I know that preparing myself Gilberts solution would probably be best and most cheaper solution) - since I live in country where I don't speak native language, and I don't know my way around yet

thanks,

Actually I want to change my question

I was in the shop - they don't have it. They only have some powder, bleach for one liter - mix with water. Maybe someone recognize what this could be? Is temperature of water important?

looks like either Ferri or ferri+potassium bromide. Is there a white granular powder in there....that is probably KBr. Most of the bromoil bleaches I've seen are a bit more than Sepia bleach and have things like acid in it to tan the matrix (I suppose). There are probably people out there (GENE L....yoohoo?) who could answer you question.

Anyhow I tried it - not good. It is bleaching, but not complete. Even after 25 minutes - picture is still visible on paper. I think I have two options: try to make Gilberts solution by myself (it will be fun to search chemistry here  ), or to find some bromoil workshop here.

Anyone from Warsaw here who knows about alternative process workshops  ?

My recipe for bromoil bleach: 70 mls of 10% copper sulphate. 70 mls of 10% pot bromide. 30 mls 1% pot dichromate. Distilled water to make I liter. Constant agitation for 8 minutes. This mixture will bleach/tan about ten 8x10 matrices.

Thanks.

btw Gene - because of your photos I want to try this. I think that I look at your portfolio at least once a week. I consider it to be best bromoil prints that I saw on whole internet, and I looked a lot of pages about this
