I realize that the 612 is wider than the Veriwide 100, but otherwise why not? I also note that with lens it is far out of range for people like me, but then so is a Veriwide in good order.

Have you looked into the ProPaq line of modified Graflex XLs as sold by SKGrimes? Again, not quite Veriwides but in the spirit. I've suggested to Adam that he should be able to beat Alpa handily on price but he hasn't taken the hint.

And, come to think of it, I see that Capaul & Weber are now offering a modified Linhof Super-Rollex back that gives 56 x 84. They want silly money for it, also for the camera bodies that accept it, but an Alpa 12 with slightly long nominal 6x9 back and a short lens is in the spirit too.

About the suggestion above that a Graflex SLR be revived, Ron Wisner tried. IIRC, his well-made wooden box got good reviews but sold very poorly.

A subtext of this thread is that the new alternative to clapped-out old cameras should be relatively inexpensive. But many of the clapped-out cameras nominated for modern replacements were pretty expensive when new.

When I first looked at the veriwide it was going for 600-800.00 w/ finder on ebay. Then they started to rise and I was informed that the lens wasn't suitable @ f/8 which is where I'd want to use it. I do like the integration of film /w body over the Paq Pro and like the Fotoman, but I feel the veriwide is more ergonomic. One day I'll either get over my desire for a hand holdable sw 6x9 or I'll buy what’s available (old fuji RF?). Nice list of cameras though and I wasn’t familiar with the paqpro until I read your post.

I'm more willing to compromise with reality than you are. I get by without an Alpa 12, find that a humble and inexpensive Century Graphic with an ex-aerial camera 38/4.5 Biogon remounted by Steve Grimes (much less expensive than the Alpa version) meets my tiny little needs of nothing at all. Roger Hicks has told me that I'm unfair to the Alpa; since he has one I believe him. I have it on good authority that Capaul & Weber think I'm an ignorant barbarian. I'm having fun anyway.

Rolleiflex 3.5F Planar, Ensign Selfix w, Ross Express lens (if you,re old enough to remember) and without doubt the finest 35mm SLR system ever produced, the Olympus OM-1/2/3/4 - bet the OM-5 could have accepted digital backs and made toast and coffee!
Allan, I have a Selfix 820 with 105/3.8 Xpres (not Express). If that's your idea of perfection, I fear you've been deprived of the better things ... I thought austerity in the UK ended long ago.

while it was sort of like a graflex slr,
it took shuttered lenses / didn't have an internal shutter...
it is the internal shutter and barrel lenses AND the slr that makes
the graflex so very different than what ron wisner made ...

I too would just about kill for a new era of Graflex-type LF SLR's. They would absolutely have to have an in-body shutter and be able to accept barrel lenses. I'd like to see them made now out of something sturdy and able to take a beating, like aluminum. Personally I think the RB Auto Graflex (longer bellows, front rise) crossed with the Super D (flash sync, automatic lens) and updated with some other modern features (front bed drop and front swings, etc) in a body made of aluminum would be a killer product.

I'd also like to see a new version of either the Grafmatic back of the 12-shot cut film magazine (bag mag) made. Come to think of it, with access to a verticle mill, some blackout fabric, and somebody with some know-how, the Bag mag could very well be remade. They're incredibly simple devices.

And finally, I'd like to see Prontor cable-release timers come back on the market. You know, the ones that will hold the cable in the 'pressed' position for up to 32 seconds. I love those.

Ah...I feel a lot of penny-pinching, equipment sales, and a few phone calls to SK Grimes are about to hit us all. Or me at least.

How about a new Diana camera? 35mm model and 120. Panoramic Diana
New Zuiko lenses would be nice but then I couldn't afford them anyway and wouldn't bother buying em if I could

I bought the Golden one (SO ugly!!) and I am quite dissapointed with it..

I don't know, but it certainly looks like they made another Holga, but disguised it as a Diana... in other words, the lens doesn't have the Diana characteristica!:mad:

But is it ok for the Students to try out.

(they added a pinhole feature in it - which is silly -and a screw thingy for tripod - which is nice!)

Here Here! That is what the initial statement in the post was about...IMNSHO, ULF cameras should not cost a fortune to build. I have picked up a few oldies with the intent, as a hobby project, not business, mind you, of restoring and then making a new "original".:smile:

You can polish the lenses with simichrome, actually ..I use it to polish the body itself.

Does the zone focus actually work well?
Pretty cool, though.

what I want to make, is a "Dianablad" - a hasselblad with a Diana lens in front!

now that would look cool!:D

None. I'm very happy with the camera choices we today. I just ordered a new Chamonix 4x5, I bought a new Nikon F6 three months ago, and I am considering buying a Mamiya 7II as well.

Freestyle now has the Diana+ in stock. Just in time for use as a stocking stuffer, it seems...
