California Modernist Troll or Chicago School Abstract Expressionist Troll?

Apples or Ham steak.

Good question, but hard to answer...
Which do I prefer? It would be hard to say, both were so fantastic. I love the abstracts of both...Weston seemed more organically abstract, while Siskind was manufactured, or man made??
Maybe others have a beter grasp on their approaches? lee?

Aaron Siskind was an early influence in my photographic life. I simply liked his eye and his way of photographing better than Brett Weston. I was privileged several years ago to see a retrospective of Aaron Siskind's work. It was at The Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, AZ on the campus of University of Arizona. Siskind would have been 100 years old that year. He was also the only photographer that was asked to exhibit with the likes of abstract expressionist Frans Kline. That art movement was very big in the 50's and early 60's. What I find interesting is that even though Siskind was a big influence on my start as a photographer, my work has really never followed his style. Siskind's approch to photography was one, in my mind, of solving problems that painters often work on/with. Too try to compare Weston and Siskind would take too much web space and is really just a subjective comparison. Both were excellent image makers. But it was Siskind that I became aware of first.

Edward Weston, Paul Strand and Minor White!
I hope this help you with your doubts:smile:.

Cheers

André

I think that Minor White was very good, but that Weston and Strand are over-rated.
I'll take Brett Weston over his dad any day.
