How fortunate to have know one who is considered among the pantheon of iconic photographers and artists.
Happy 105th Birthday!

A toast to you as well Merg for keeping us informed. Here in the UK it was only recently late 1970's and mostly the 80's onwards that we really got to know of Ansel Adams and to a lesser extant the Weston's. Even now it's really just Edward Weston that's really known outside the US despite that fact that Brett and Cole were both superb photographers.

If I had to choose one photographer I'd like to meet, and talk to, it's you Merg,

Ian

In his honor I shall cremate a few negatives.

Thank you, Ian.

I can understand that Brett would be less well known. However, his work was exhibited at the Tate Modern in London a few months back. I just missed the show when I was there.

Perhaps our paths will cross; were you not in Canada recently?

Best,
Merg

A current exhibition as the Amon Carter Museum is: American Photographs, 1845 to Now ... more than 70 photographs drawn from the Amon Carter’s permanent collection. ... Covering 170 years of photography’s history, from unique daguerreotype portraits to large-scale contemporary works, ...

One-offs from almost everybody represented. One Ansel Adams. One Lewis Hine. One Margaret Bourke-White, etc. No Edward Westons.

FOUR Brett Westons!

Sorry to disappoint you, but you don't have birthdays especially not happy ones when you are dead, however it can be the anniversary of your birth

I just got out "Hawaii Fifty Photographs by Brett Weston" to look through today. I was there a month ago.

And correct or not, I'll wish happy birthday to people who are gone.

Here in the U.S., your birthday is the anniversary of the day you were born. So one's doesn't change after death.

Merg, You're the last man standing and my toast is to YOU. Merry Christmas sir!

Jim, it's a wonderful surprise to hear from you. Thanks for the toast and holiday sentiment. My very best wishes to you and your family.

Hope you are still busy making those fascinating photographs; always a pleasure to view them.

Your comment got me thinking that I may be one of the few living persons who actually spent time with Edward in his Wildcat Hill studio. Two that I personally know are 98 and 99 years old respectively. Of course, I started photographing at a very young age.

Cheers to you, Jim.
