In the recent View Camera magazine I saw an article on a new MDF 4x5 Camera Kit that you put together. It's like a model kit, you punch out the parts and glue them together. Comes with all the hardware and you paint it yourself. Made by Camera Bellows of UK so you know it has a great bellows. Just perfect for the beginner builder/photographer. It's called the Bulldog and is displayed on page 56. Unlike the bender this one actually looks nice.

Cool! Now, I have an excuse to patiently await the arrival of the new issue! Thanks!

I think I've seen that one on the Camera Bellows website, or maybe they sent me a flyer about it with my 11x14" bellows.

Do you think this would make a good dedicated panoramic camera?

The author of the report used apo grandagon 65 mm full coverage on 5x4 will just about cover 6x12 cm and 6x9 cm with ease, horseman 6x9 fitted with ease linhof 6 x12 cm back was difficult.

also added would need a fresnel screen for better light distribution on the wide angle lenses

I hope this helps

Seems like it be a good back-up camera for professionals. Small, light, and relatively compact. I wonder how durable they will be.

I looked on their website, and did not see anything, and the local stores don't have a copy of View Camera in stock and did not expect to get it, does anybody have a link? And no, I am not interested in subscribing to the magazine..

I'm trying to attach a pdf file for the Bulldog Flyer kit camera. Let's see if I did it right.

how much?
View Camera lists the MSRP at $319.95. The actual price will be determined by the dealer. The magazine suggests that a used view or press camera may be more appropriate for some uses. I concur.

The only online retailer I could find is http://www.pinholesolutions.co.uk/camera_kits.htm (they have an advert in this month's UK Black & White Photography magazine). 160 GBP inc VAT which should translate to about 250 USD by the time it (if it) reaches US shores...

Cheers, Bob.

If someone were interested in The BULLDOG 5x4 Self Assembly Camera Kit but not in pinhole photography, could not the lens board be replaced with one to accept standard 0 or #1 lenses? Is there more to pinhole cameras than the lens (or lack of)?

Bruce,

I read the description to say the camera accepts standard Linhof style boards for shooting as a normal 4x5 as well

Is the camera made from MDF (medium density fiberboard)? If it is moisture or humidity will kill it.

We just went through that the other day on the Gandolfi thread, if the proper MDF is used, which I suspect it will be, in other words marine grade MDF, moisture will not cause a problem or will humidity..There are grades of MDF, that can soak in water for 6 months and still be dry and retain all of their orginal properties.

I saw a Lee filter ad in the same issue of View Camera announcing the kit. Funny, a B&W by Joe Cornish - I wonder if they desaturated the image from a color one for the ad.
