Dear photographers,

My tiny pocket computer mixed again all of us. Everybody should have a got message from me with a pair of addresses. The first block contains your own address as given to me. Please, make certain that your own address is correct. PM me as soon as possible if a correction is needed to YOUR address.
Please don't mind the numbers, I need them while "mixing" us.

The second block contains the address of your partner: You have to send your print(s) to there. Please wait a few days before sending anything to allow time for corrections. Make sure you mark your box with your name and

BPX 43
on it.

If you are unable to complete your assignment, it is understandable - life often gets in a way of our hobbies. However, it would be very helpful if you let me know so that I could change the assignment to somebody else.

If something is or seems to be wrong, please PM me.

Our timeline: Please print and send your offering till end of November 2023

How to avoid taxes / VAT:

If a sending goes outside the U.S. (or more correct: outside your country) it should be a letter, and not a parcel or similar.

Everything you simply put in the letterbox should be a letter. Anything you give at the office may induce taxes. Everything with a custom declaration will induce taxes.

Please keep in mind what "counts" as a letter in your country. In the U.S. it needs to be flexible. In Germany, it may be stiff.

I received 3 nice prints from piu58. A lith print of an old WW2 factory, complete with lots of graffiti. Can you go in there? I would try! And a nice toned print of an old diesel tractor, now running for a public display. And a tall landscape of several trees and their reflections in the water. All very nice! But a question: all taken on a Mamiya C220 (one of my favorite cameras), but none of them square. Just an observation, I often crop my 6x6 images as well. Thanks Uwe, good stuff!

6x6 is poor man's shift, if you don't use the upper part of the negative

Received two days ago a very nice 18x24cm B/W print from Buzz-01. A caravan (aka travel trailer) apparently abandoned in a field. Printing is perfect as far as I can tell. And I get to hold in my hands for the first time Ilford Portfolio Glossy paper: exsudes a luxury feel.
Receiving this print also serves as a reminder to do my own mailing.
Edit: packed prints, printed address, then proceeded to buy online stamp and tracking sticker from LaPoste website. Payment (instantaneous). Then: "your pdf will soon be available, sorry for the delay". That was 30min ago. I suppose this must be the Internet Age. End of rant.

Good to hear it arrived and glad you like it!
The Portfolio paper is a very nice paper indeed, still RC so easy to process but with a luxury feel to it.

And received. Thanks Don for this beatiful lith print with a fantastic atmosphere. I am enjoying it a lot.

You're welcome. I was struggling what I should do for the exchange this time. I thought a lith print would be something interesting - and I hadn't done any in a while. You can get a special kind of contrast with lith printing.

Yesterday I got two beautiful prints from bernard_L. The letter needed a long time for the not so long way from France to Germany. But finally, It reached its destination.

Bernard visited Chacabuca, in the Atacama Desert (Chile). The place was a nitrate mining up to the late 60's. Later it was a detention camp for political prisoners. But now its is a cultural heritage.

The photographs give a good impression form te spirit of that place. I like the paper very much, Ilford Baryta.

Bernard has an online presentation of the photographs he took there:

Today morning I received "Barn and Grain Elevator" print from mfohl.
The place, with its old barns and wooden grain elevator, has a "genius loci" and two factors made it even stronger: the first is Holga - it gives the impression that the picture was taken in a previous era. The second factor is fiber paper. I really like to touch non-plastic photo papers. When I grab it, it feels different, it sounds different. Really nice print, thank you.

Mark also added a letter and the post scriptum gave me another surprise - Mark knows someone from my town. It reminds me of my trip to North Carolina and visiting the Hatteras Island Lighthouse. A ranger at the top of the lighthouse heard our Czech and asked us where we were from. And you know what? He studied in Brno for two years...

It is my first time attending BPX and I have to say it won't be my last.

Many thanks to @Ajven for a showstopper of a print called Joyride that just arrived after a 6,800 km trip from Brno.

The print features a smiling couple in their 70s enjoying a cool-down ride on a 1940s era BSA motorcycle with a sidecar. We are told from the included note that the joy in their faces is because they are heading to the pits after completing a vintage hillclimb race in Brno. The photo was made on September 30th 2023 so the expertly printed and toned result is fresh too.

Thank you!

Thanks @warden for the feedback. I hope the print protection was sufficient for 6.800km long trip. Also glad to hear that postal service is functional and I'm looking forward to the next round of BPX.

Received a very cool image from @warden - printed very well. In this light, it doesn't require any burning. The plastic caught on the barbed wire makes for a very interesting flag (not sure what the country would be, though).

Another thought: now I know where that plastic bag from the movie American Beauty ended up. (Everyone's seen that movie, right?)

Thanks very much!

I do remember that bag from American Beauty, and there is one spot in my neighborhood that reliably creates the swirling currents to lift all kinds of debris in a similar fashion. I'm the only one standing in the middle.

I'm glad to see the print arrived!

I received two very nice prints from @negativefunk that made their way across the ocean to me. One is a beautiful ~11x14 landscape print of the Pyrenees on fiber. One of my favorite things in a black and white print are well defined clouds and these are the star of the show in this print while still maintaining detail in the mountains below - a fantastic application of an orange filter. The second print is an 8x10 landscape showcasing a power generating windmill with the background fading away into the fog - very nice. Thanks @negativefunk!
