Articles like this make me happy. The more of these type of articles the general public see, the sooner they will start assuming that EVERY image they see is manipulated.

Indeed.

But i don't think this one has much newsvalue. It's just something to look at.

BP also prevented media from getting too close to the spill. It's all damage control. They're just building distrust with the public.

Agreed, BP has taken a colosssal hit as far as trust is concerned, I have not seen a company twist the truth like they did.....the constant sidestepping reminds me of our great polititians.

All in all it is a sad time for the Gulf folks as well as the country.

I doubt if BP management spends time Photoshopping PR photos. It was done by the photographer/art director in whose lap this hot^H^H^Hwarmed-over potato should land. As usual, we have met the enemy and they is us.

I'd be more impressed if the manipulation was actually covering something up, or altering something that mattered.

As it is, it's a story about nothing, or rather, something that could have been about something, but was nothing, but someone wanted it to be something, so they made something out of nothing.

What this suggests to me is that BP cuts corners in more areas than just safety.

They clearly hired on the cheap for their PR/photo freelancers, and tried to pull a fast one in terms of oversight. Hardly surprising, given the corporate culture today.

That said - BP is not a journalistic organization. They aren't bound to the ethics and expectations of a news outlet. However, given the public interest and scope of the situation, the onus is on them to be 200% upfront with the public...something they fell quite short of, clearly.

Amateurish use of Photoshop causes yet another BP embarrassment

What is the embarrassment? Some of their screens or cameras were not working? I'm not sure I understand what is embarrassing about the photograph. Is someone showing their butt in one of them or something?
