I inherited all the property of Boulder Camera Repair Service in 2002. John Ellis closed the business in 1995 due to ill-health. I'm just a casual photographer who is a little over my head with all of the equipment that John left me. I'm glad to have discovered this site. Working on my 20 posts to become part of the community; here's the first:

To be clear - the 20-post limit is a practical security measure that really only has implications for being able to initiate private conversations and to post responses to existing ads in the Classifieds section. So you technically don't really need to hit the 20-post limit. Also, for the functions needed, we sometimes make exceptions if people ask us to and they have a viable reason. This is also to avoid people feeling pressured into making a certain number of posts even if they feel they don't really have much to add.

In other words - feel free to share what you want to, and in the frequency and volume you're comfortable with!

Ah, the initiation of fire... I can understand the feeling, once being hired to become the photographic lab supervisor of a major state university in Ohio. I had 3 stories of lab, studio and equipment (still, motion picture and video) to become familiar with within a month before students returned to ask detailed questions about operation and use of said equipment. I don't think I slept that month while reading, exploring and becoming familiar with every darned bit of equipment.

Welcome aboard! The rabbit hole is real; don't let swallow you entirely!

Are you planning to do camera repair? It’s something we’re really short of on the front range.

I'm just the custodian of these tools - 24 years after they were left to me I'm finally getting around to finding homes for them. Which is why I'm trying to identify each one.

I hear good things about the work done by "Key Camera Service" in Longmont.

Yup, although perpetually cranky, Dave has done some great work on several cameras for me. But he is VERY busy and turnaround time can get long. He has also gotten very choosy about what kind of work he will accept.

hopefully you can get the repair business started again. It's a dying craft, and without it, mechanical cameras lose one of their major benefit.
