Are there any corrosion or contamination issues from using metal capped bottles?

I always put a piece of wax paper or parafilm over the mouth of the bottle before I put a metal or plastic cap on it to avoid any contamination from a cap mix up. Haven't had any corrosion issues with metal caps as a result.

I love it when someone asks a question that I should've asked.

This may have saved me some future grief....

Nicholas,

So, how can I tell if I'm buying vinyl wrap or not? I haven't given this much thought, but I do recall reading many years ago that Saran wrap was best for covering trays over generic brands because the Saran wrap was less permeable.

Vinyl wrap is very clear on the roll and has a slight yellow tint. It is very stretchy and sticks to itself like mad. The stuff sold in grocery stores is PE (Polyethylene) wrap - it is cloudy on the roll and not nearly as clingy.

The original Saran wrap was PVDC and is no longer made. The new stuff is PVC, not quite as good but still much better than PE.

Order "PVC food wrap" from Amazon or buy at Costco or a restaurant supply house.
