The Leica Way, is a good start. I've also got some Leica guide books published by Leitz, very detailed lists every thing including historic items.

No book but a link to a lot of information about Leica, Voigtländer, Zeiss and other ltm/m lenses.

If you google for 'The Evolution of the Leica Lens' you'll find a pdf file of the book of the same title written by Erwin Puts.

If you're talking about other brands besides Leica, Peter Kitchingman's book, "Canon M39 Rangefinder Lenses, 1939 - 1971" is the best source of info on the LTM Canon rangefinder lenses.

Identifying Leica lenses by Ghester Sartorious.
The lenses are broken down by mount and graded for rarity. It also has optical diagrams and sn blocks by year.

Leica by Paul-Henry van Hasbroeck is a comprehensive compilation covering rangefinder and reflex cameras and accessories. The Leica Book by Theo Kisselbach and The Leica Manual by Morgan & Lester (Morgan & Morgan in later editions) are more for the photographer than for the collector. The latter was originally published in 1935 and updated for decades.
