One of the neat things about these newfangled computer thingies is that if you start a simple catalogue database you can just add things to it in any order, and it can organize the additions for you.

So it is always a good idea to start a catalogue like this.

Just think first about what you want to use it for (affects the layout and organization) and how you want to mark things once they have been entered into the database.

Oh, and back up your work!

I had always wanted a wall full of books. I'm halfway there. Here's my list, not exactly what one might refer to as light reading.

Adams, A. Sierra Nevada and the John Muir Trail
Adams A. An Autobiography
Clarke, G. Alfred Stieglitz
Taschen Alfred Stieglitz - Camera Work - The Complete Illustrations 1903-1917
Litlle & Brown Ansel Adams 400 Photographs
Lambrecht and Woodhouse Way Beyond Monochrome Ed2
Mees, C. E. K. The Theory of the Photographic Process
Vestal, D. The Craft of Photography
Rudman, T. The Photographer's Master Printing Course
Carroll, Higgins and James Introduction to Photographic Theory
Adams, A. The Print
Horenstein, H. Black and White Photography - A Basic Manual
Horenstein, H. Beyond Basic Photography
Vestal, D. The Art of Black and White Enlarging
Neblette, C. B. Photography - Its Materials and Processes
Chilton The Manual of Photography (formerly the Ilford manual)
Wall, Jordan Photographic Facts and Formulas
The Kodak Reference Handbook (50's)
Garrett, J. Black and White Photography Masterclass
Davis, P. Beyond the Zone System
The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography (2 vol)
Thomas, W. Ed. SPSE Handbook of Photographic Science and Engineering
Carroll Black and White Processing Data Book
Kingslake Lenses in Photography
Little & Brown Ansel Adams in the National Parks
US War Department TM 1-219 Technical Manual of Basic Photography (dated 1941)
Little & Brown The Portfolios of Ansel Adams
Adams, A. The Negative (2 copies)
Picker, F. Zone VI Workshop
Aperture. The Daybooks of Edward Weston - I Mexico and II California
Rowell, G. High and Wild
Rowell, G. Bay Area Wild
McWhinnie, A. Reader's Digest Complete Photography Manual
Washington. Imogen! - Imogen Cunningham Photographs 1910-1973
Brown, D. Photographs of the American Wilderness
Bothamley, C. H. Ilford Manual of Photography (undated)
Hedgecoe. The Photographer's Handbook
White, M., Zakia, Lorenz. The New Zone System Manual
Miller and Brummitt. This is Photography
Eastman Kodak Co. The Modern Way in Picture Making (1907)
James, T. And Higgins, C. Fundamentals of Photographic Theory (different end from above, different place in the bookcase)
Grimm, T. The Basic Darkroom Book
Cox. Photographic Processing
Cox. Photographic Sensitivity
Adams, A. Natural Light Photography
McLean, Les 'Rock Star'. Creative Black and White Photography
Newhall, B. The History of Photography

And countless other pictorials, magazine back issues, general overall coverage books and the like. Please don't ask me to repeat this. Bet the power on this tablet goes before I press reply.

Oh, and WBM Ed2 was Faith's last Christmas gift to me. And one of my favorites I might add.

Oh, he had a guitar in a portrait nearly as often as a camera. Great photographer, wonderful to work with.

Only briefly over the internet for a month on an article for CiM. I'll never forget it though. I ask for a short bio and a pic and I imagine this great photographer sporting the latest gear of which I could only dream. What do I get?

A Gibson IIRC.

Yeah, Matt; been there, done that.

The MSAccess database is created and has a whopping 3 whole CDs entered. That's 37 records (one per track).

Starting a simple catalog is easy - it's the data entry where the process breaks down ... :whistling:

Two new books just came into the collection: one a monograph, the other a biography.

The Rollei Project, Jock Sturges, Duncan Meeder, 2013.

Mathew Brady- Portraits of a Nation: A Biography, Robert Wilson, Bloomsbury Press, 2013.

The Rollei Project was the result of a collaboration between Jock and the Rollei distributor for Europe/Asia. It was his first real foray into working in something other than 8x10. Looking at the book, he certainly didn't suffer any for switching to a smaller format, and if anything, it added a new layer of intimacy in the images by virtue of the lightness and speed of the camera. If you're a Jock Sturges fan, you'll love the book.
