Hi all,

I am a new joiner here and like to take this chance to say hello to everyone.

I am recently shooting with my Bolex 8mm and in love with it... I also planning to make a short film and show in my marriage banquet next year.
I have a D8L and have a H8 which never try (I though the same operation but it was too heavy for carrying out), after collecting some footage I am going to "editing it" and found I need equipment to shoot titler...

I search thru eBay or Etsy recently for Bolex Titler (or call Bolex Super Titler) it come with a frame and camera pod, with 2 lighting... I am looking for it but sadly it won't appear or with a incomplete parts...

Like to know if any other place I can look for?

thank you!
Kent

There are several of different brands, some are just letters and a black background. I shoot titles off the computer screen. In MS Word I make a document with white letters and a black background. This is where your H8 may come in handy. With a tripod you can frame the shot properly before shooting. This would be difficult with the D8L due to parallax correction unless you have a reflex lens for it. If you don’t have an H8 Reflex model you would need a Rackover device for framing and shooting.

It is the purpose of a titler to remedy the parallax problem. At the same time a given frame size is made to fit the image.
The Paillard-Bolex titlers just do so. The 8mm titler for the pocket cameras, models L8-B8-C8-D8, is especially exact in that it works with a little lamp that slides into the film canal of your camera to project the aperture on a cardboard through the taking lens. The only inconvenience is that the camera is rotationally located by a physical stop on the door.

I offer a new camera support that you can exchange with the existing one for cameras with a locating groove in the base. With it you can leave the camera on the titler for loading. Send me a message, if you please.

Up to now I did not even know about the Super Titler... Actually in many years I only came across two, most basic, unbranded titlers.

I think with SLR cameras one can work with much simpler, even home-made titlers. And with the trick Europan hinted at one should be able to use such also with a non-reflex camera.

Thank you for all your advise and comments,
Finally another set of titler on hand and it come with a "camera center card" which have a small hole in the very middle of the frame, come with a reflection cap use to make sure your camera lens is pointing to the central of the titler.

I think I will try to shoot some with it first and see the result... but later on will build a bigger frame for my 2 hand dolls... and hope everything get smooth and can be completed!

A reflection, to my understanding, would only yield centering of the camera. But you also would need framing. Also keep in mind that at close distance focusing the field of view shrinks a bit.
