Digital... Never have. Never will. Ergo, the pseudonym: Silver or Nothin'. Welcome to APUG, friend! For me it's only large format b/w. Darkroom is forever, love it. Bought a house just so I could set it up the way I want it, with everything in its place.

Man, I like your attitude.

Welcome!

No need to try to convince anyone or justify why you like film photography. For some, it's the degree of involvement and the different approach that's part of film photography.

A coworker was telling me about the millisecond shifting of his VW's automatic transmission, as if I should be envious; I told him that it's not about the speed of shifting (unless 10's of millions of Euros are at stake in an F1 race), but rather the satisfaction you get and the degree of involvement you have doing it on your own. Same thing in photography.

I agree. Actually, to me its the satisfaction of doing it myself, not having "the machine" do it for me.

There is a saying in the Class 8 truck world, "Its not how fast you mover the lever, its how smooth you shift the gears." On my 18 speed Fuller, I think about that every time I shift. Precision, perfection, repeatability; just like film photography.

There is a new ad running on television for Ford. A young woman is standing in the showroom looking at a new car. A salesman walks up to her, and rather than pointing the driving features of the vehicle, says, "Its got Bluetooth and a back-up camera."

Our world continues to dwell on the whats not the most important facts.

Welcome to APUG! I'm sure you'll love it here. Like you, I came here after having too many "why don't you shoot digital?" conversations. I really feel like it's my second home here.

My mum got me this Dead Link Removed for Christmas last year. I think I'll need to find one about my darkroom too...
