Woo hoo! I'm not the last one again.

Just returned from handing my package to the nice post office lady. And US$24.15 to go with it. She said that buys 6-10 business days.

Eugene, you can now mark me as SENT AND RECEIVED (DONE!!!!!).

Like Ken, my print package was handed today to the Post Office.

In my case, it was $15.20. It has a fair distance to go.

So I can be marked down as "SENT"

So far I have not received.

I still look at my print every day, it just happens to be sitting on my scanner that's why, anyway I think it's funny because I was expecting some kind of critique of my work at some point, and the one that I did of the person who sent it to me was actually quite thorough but also a little demanding and harsh, but i've realized that his image has way more information in it than mine does, mining is a simple color landscape with not a lot of things going on so there's not much to critique actually. I think next time I'm going to have to send something a lot more detailed. Because I don't optically print and only send my stuff off to a light-jet printer to have it chemically processed, I felt as if it made more sense to "be fair" if I simply made a color image that was made from a transparency, this way the image normally wouldn't have been easily printable anyway, versus a black-and-white image which could theoretically be done with an enlarger. I think next time if I'm still not set up with a dark room, which I know I won't be, I'll send a black-and-white image anyway even if it has to be like jet printed by Dwayne's photo because it will have a lot more detail and things going on. My color stuff tends to be less elaborate and more "pretty" skylines etc.

I don't know why am telling you all this, except that it was on my brain and I just needed to spit it out.

Stone:

You should send a print that you like, not one that is intended to appeal to what you imagine to be another person's preference.

Oh no, I sent a print I like, what I meant was, the rules state I should only send a hybrid print for Transparencies since Ilfochrome isn't available any longer.

But if I sent a B&W print, it would have to be an optical print, per the rules.

I also sent one of my favorite shots! While they always go on the wall, the shots I receive are usually trees. I have a whole forest of tree photographs sent from various people.

Delayed

Hi all

Unfortunately I've had some unforeseen problems regarding access to darkroom this fall, but hopefully they will be resolved within a week or two. I will then print and send.

Thanks Ed, she doesn't really like that photo, but her husband is a bit nostalgic and that was the first picture he ever saw of her years ago - I sent him one as well!

I received a large box from (there was a url link here which no longer exists) (USA).

It was very well and securely packed (thank you). It came with a nice, long letter, explaining the techniques and all about where&how this image was made. It also included a true story about a policeman "... apologizing for even owning a digital camera and promising that he would look for his old 35 mm film camera and give it a try again ..." and my first intro to Roadhouse Blues by Jim Morrison.
It's not just a picture, its a whole set of stories captured in a single image. A photograph is so much more .... when you know the story attached to it, don't you think?

The print is called: Ashen Lady (hence Roadhouse Blues). Its a beautiful B&W print of a lighted roadside motel sign made with a 8x10 inch camera and contact printed.

I'm gonna put this image on a easel for now to watch it regularly. I will post a PM to Ken with my feedback on the image in due time when it has really sunk in. Then I will frame the image (it came already mounted) and hang it in my simple darkroom&workspace (= attic above the garage).
This is my first 8x10 inch contact print and it makes me even wanting more to get into this format as well. I have just ordered me my first box of 18x24 cm Fomapan sheet film to use in an old Russian FKD plate camera (= about 7.2x9.6 inch).

Ken: thank you for a beautiful print and all the work and effort you have put into it. This is the first time I participated in a BPX and didn't know I would end up with such a fine print. It will be a standard for me to live up to in the next BPX I will participate in.
BTW: Would you be so kind to post the image yourself in the BPX gallery (so it will be under your own name, not mine)?

Sincerely,
Bert from Holland

I knew there was a reason I almost volunteered, then didn't.

I received a large box...

Wow. I've never received such an enthusiastic response! Usually I never even know if the package was ever received.

I do tend to go overboard for these exchanges. It's a chance to do something where I don't have to cut corners all of the time. The difference between a hobby and a job.

This was a fun picture to make, what with the police showing up, the landowner showing up (left that one out of the letter), pedestrians stopping to ask questions (also left that out), and eventually sitting in the dark for an hour while the stand development did its thing (need to buy an 8x10 paper safe to do that next time).

Even more fun was that you enjoyed it so much!

Thanks, Bert. I'll post the scan soon...

Well, not to hijack, but since Eugene posted it here, and if it is OK with you all, I would certainly like to take the reins of the BPX once again.

I know Eugene has needed to hand it off for awhile. I almost volunteered simply because he's such a nice guy, but I've recently had a run of unexpected time-consuming incidents of my own.

If you're willing and he's agreeable, I think that would be a great idea.

That great. Thank you Chris! I'm trying to manage an engineering team spread out across three very different time zones and it's getting rather overwhelming... Thank you very much! I really appreciate it.
