Hello all,
I've got a black Canon AE-1 Program with 50 f/1.4 lens. This was the first camera I ever bought with my own money. I've had it for probably 8 years or so and for the last few years it's been sitting on a shelf. I had intended on just keeping it, but it's not doing me any good sitting on a shelf and I'd like to see someone use it.

The camera works perfectly and the meter is spot-on (no pun intended). It does exhibit that famous Canon squeal but my wife shot a roll with it about a month ago and it performed well.

The lens is clean and clear. It does have some dust inside as would most lenses of this age. There are no major marks or scratches on the lens and definitely nothing that would affect performance. (This is not the SSC model of the lens.)

I don't really know what this camera is worth at this point so I'll just throw $160 out there as a starting point and see what we come up with.

The price includes PayPal fees and CONUS Priority Mail shipping. You get the camera, lens, generic front cap and battery. The battery is new as of sometime earlier this year (I bought a bunch of them for other cameras and things). I'll try and find a roll of film or two to throw in the box as well so you can hit the ground running.

Please PM or email me with questions or offers. If you think my price is outrageous, make me an offer. I'm going to get some photos up ASAP.

No trades at this time unless you've got a decent compound bow (RH, 29" Draw, 65# Pull) that you'd like to trade and I'll throw you some cash. Otherwise, it's a for-sale-only deal.

Have a great weekend all!

Best
Matthew

Keh.com offers an AE-1 Program with 50mm f/1.4 lens in excellent condition for $280. Of course, that price includes a 6 month warranty (up from 60 days).

You should be able to get $200 or so if the condition is excellent or better.

Thank you for that. I'll start the price at $160 and see where it gets me...

Pictures of the camera. The worst mark is shown in one of the photos. It's on the bottom rear of the camera. Otherwise, this camera is in excellent condition except for the shutter squeak. A quick repair fixes that though... Somebody make me an offer on this guy. :D

The "shutter squeak" isn't the shutter at all, but due to a dry bearing in the mirror breaking mechanism that causes the Canon A series cough, I'm no expert but that's what my repair guy told me when he serviced my A1 last year, your camera looks in pretty good cosmetic condition Matt and black ones are quite rare, I wish you luck an am sure you will sell it soon.

You're actually very correct. It's the flywheel for the mirror. It can be fixed very easily if you do it right. It never bothered me so I just left it.

Thank you for your input! I hope someone can give this guy a good home. He took me all the way through my first few photo classes.

Just an aside - a chrome AE-1P was also my own first camera/with own money, and it served me well for several years before I moved on to other gear.

Upon selling it, I immediately regretted it - and my kit didn't look nearly as nice as your own! I think the price is quite fair; regretfully or not, it should sell quickly.

The Canon Squeak is nothing to fear; my understanding of it (I've had it, too) is that it's mostly cosmetic. Best of luck!

Cheers,

Joe,
Thanks for your input on this. I'm definitely not pushing to sell it at all. But it has just been sitting and I prefer to use my X700 as it belonged to my dad and it just holds some sentimental value. I also like the X700's handling better than the AE-1. I'm just kind of hoping someone picks it up that can use it and learn with it the way I did. It's a great piece of equipment.

If not treated the "squeak" will cause the camera mirror mechanism to cease up, this and become inoperative.
