Hi Guys-
Do any of you know of a company that makes black and white paper that has a back print that says "B&W Paper"? A small photo house in my area has some and they don't seem to know where it may come from. I cannot seem to figure it out. Did Kodak paper have back print in the later days?

Thanks,

Patrick

As far as I am aware, any Kodak paper that had a back print included "Kodak" in the back print.

Packages labeled "Promaster" have that on the back of the paper -- but I do not know the original manufacturer.

Kodak paper doesn't say B&W. My Polycontrast II (B&W) and Supra III RA-4 both have identical back markings, Kodak Professional Paper (plus paper in French and Spanish), Do Not Copy. Same dot patterns too. Doesn't seem to be any way to tell it is B&W or color paper.

Okay thanks...Does anyone know who makes ProMaster paper?

I'll see if a student has a box of Promaster tomorrow and try to get a country-of-origin off the box.

I am fairly sure that the ProMaster's boxes say Made in E.U.

Um... exactly how many countries make up the European Union(E.U.) these days?

Thinking only of the EU members which, to my knowledge, have photo material factories, there would seem to be just the UK, France, Italy, and Germany.

(Which doesn't really help, as it would seem to only exclude Efke as being the makers of Promaster....Croatia not being set to join the EU until around 2013.)

Today there are 27 countries in the European Union. Of these 27 , 17 are members of the Eurozone ( countries who have the Euro as oficial currency ). I enclose a link to the oficial EU website where I think you can find all the facts that you want in any ( almost ! ) language.

There is also FOMA in the Czech Republic. Also until a few years ago there was Forte in Hungary. Hopefully some of their products ( Forte Polywarmtone ) may be resurected through ADOX in Germany.

I did give them a call and they said that their paper does not have a backprint....

I purchased a box of 100 sheets of 5x7" for $19.99 by Promaster. I'm also here in MA and bought it from Hunt's. It doesn't say where it's made on the box. I also tried to find out  On the back side of the paper it does say "B&W Paper" I'm new to the darkroom, so I really can't say how good it is, but I do like it so far. I read online that a teacher said he uses it in a B&W class he teaches.

The mystery has still remained. My local photo shop had some that I had used, and I have been curious ever since!

anyone know about the quality of this paper? I am visiting the San Francisco area and came across this Promaster VC paper at a fraction of the cost of Ilford. Its tempting to get some while i learn the ins and outs of printing.

Make sure which safe light it needs. Some need a red.
