Scott,

I just got off the phone at Fuji USA ("Kelly"), to ask about Acros 100 4x5 QuickLoads. She said no films have been announced as discontinued (begs the question of whether they are about-to-be). I said it's out-of-stock at almost every vendor, some stating it's not available. I said they might think about making some kind of announcement to the QL-consumers of Acros- she said she'd pass that along. I'd have thought with the demise of Tmax ReadyLoads, Fuji would enjoy a significant pickup in business- if Acros in QL is dead, there are no alternatives (other than "rolling your own" as the cowpokes used to say).

Production will be continued

Perhaps there is hope:

Seems they are hesitating.....May be, if we now tell Fuji by Emails that we love this film and need it, and show our demand by continuation of buying.....

Remember, we as customers were successful with Velvia 50 with this strategy.

Now it is official: Production will be indeed continued:

Very good news! Thank you Fuji!!
Now we have to keep on buying this wonderful film.

Use it or lose it

And now it is time to use this film, especially in 120/220 format where consumption really counts, and to keep these formats produced. It is good to see this is (for now) resolved.

I still await Scott's interview with Fuji.

Also, if we want Superia 1600 to remain available, better use it as well. It's the fastest color film in production today, with an effective speed of around 1200, so it has no equal. While it's only available in 35mm and is not technically as good as 800z or Portra 800 (which I've heard is nearly as fast as far as effective speed), there is nothing faster on the market in color. I've pushed Superia 1600 a stop and rated it at 2000 or so, and gotten nice results.

Congratulations to you guys that use, and stocked up on this product. Need to have your buddies shoot it too.

Mike

This just came in via the "Choose Film" web site news:
Fujifilm re-think Pro 800Z withdrawal

Due to demand from its customers, Fujifilm Professional has decided to continue production of Fujicolor Pro 800Z. It was announced recently that the company was to discontinue the film from September 2009.

Fujifilm's Product Manager for Professional Film, Russ Gunn, explained the turnaround: "We were amazed by the reaction from our customers following the announcement that Fujifilm was going to discontinue Pro 800Z. We have received many calls and emails from photographers who appreciate the natural skin tones and fine grain that Pro 800Z gives them. Many people were genuinely upset about the withdrawal so we have bowed to this pressure and decided to continue production for the time being."

Let's hope it is indeed true.

This is great news if it is true, whether you believe that Fuji sincerely had an about-face or the cynic in you believes it was all a publicity stunt to begin with.

If it was a publicity stunt, it probably didnt get much publicity outside our analogue circles. Either way, I'll pick some up in 35mm and give it a go out of gratitude, I've been meaming to try it.
