I'm sure there are many eBay stories purchasing darkroom gear, if I may here's one of mine.
Recently I decided to upgrade my L1200's Femoneg neg carrier, saw one on eBay so pulled the trigger. The sale included glass less masks and a Femogla AN, which is an anti-Newton glass, all for only $250. When it arrived I was really happy with its condition, almost mint. However, the Femogla was not an AN :-(. Having said that, even with a regular Femogla that was a good deal.
A week later, the second eBay purchase was a Bimaneg negative carrier for a recent M805 purchase which didn't have a neg carrier. The seller was a camera store in Europe. The deal included one 35mm glassless mask and a Bimagla, a plain glass. When it arrived I cleaned it up and put it on the shelf. Two weeks later I notice the same seller selling a Bimagla with a Bimagla AN box. I clarified with the seller whether this was a plain glass or the anti-Newton despite the box, they confirmed it was plain :-(
One week later the Bimagla arrived from Europe, so I clean it up and decide to put it into the Bimaneg which I'd already bought from the same seller. So I decide to inspect the glass that was installed on the below negative side of the holder .... it was not a Bimaneg, it was a Bimaneg AN ! Score !!
Thanks for indulging me, I'm pretty chuffed
