Down at The Sweetheart Rink -- Bill Yates
^- that's the link.

Excellent spread of images all taken over a short span of time at a rollerrink in Florida in the early 70's. The story of how the images were taken and where they've been is interesting, too. The photographer, Bill Yates, went on to a successful career, but not as a street photographer - but as an aerial photographer.

These photos hold a time and place and feeling that seems impossible, now.

Love the flared trousers, great in wet weather..... and muddy pathways.

That style wasn't complete until the bottoms of the pants were permanently a different colour from the rest due to always wicking muddy water up to the calf.

They are called “bell bottoms”.

Bell bottoms had a slightly different style. The trousers were pretty normal until about halfway down the shinbone, then they abruptly flared out to cover the entire shoe. These looked a lot closer to a bell shape than flared trousers. I know this as I wore both styles.

Kids smoking reminds me of the smoke pit at my high school. There was also a roller rink nearby. Loads of fun! I disliked flared pants and bell bottoms though, and refused to put them on 😆 New Wave came along, ushering in the straight leg, thankfully!

Term is new to me, but I was always surprised to see adults wearing teenybopper styles. To each his own.

The teenybopper styles had to come from somewhere. This particular style (bellbottoms) came from the US Navy.
