I have a Fletcher 2000. It works well, but it's a bit pricey. I do cut a lot of mats, and the production stops make it a lot quicker. Well worth it to me.

As a side note, I think the key to preventing poor mats is to change the blade often. Buy them by the hundreds. Don't expect to cut 10 windows from a single blade.

i think you are right eddie, changing blades is king,
my question to you is do you have edgar fletcher cut your mats
or change your blades ? or does he not have anything to do with your mat cutter.

When I was in college we started using watercolor paper in lieu of mat board to save money and though shadows weren't an issue we still beveled.
It looked great and I still prefer it today.

I think a bevel cut just looks better. So can you tell us what using a straight cut will add to a print that a bevel cut doesn't or do you want a straight cut for no other reason than for the sake of being different?
