Hi there, I did take a peek and search and I can't really get a solid feeling for this.

Has anyone used the glass from betterscanning.com on their scanner? I'm not sure it matters but I'm using a Epson V500.

I'd just like to see if I can get them a bit Flatter.

Thanks so much.

When you say has anyone used the glass, do you mean in the betterscanning holder or pressed flat?

Form my V700 I use the better scanning holder which has a large plate of ANR glass. This does give better results than the standard holder when scanning both 35mm and 6x7 slides.

I have also tried taping the slides to the ANR glass and placing this directly onto the scanner glass. I decided this gave inferior results as you need to set the scanner as if it is scanning large format film area. This causes the scanner to use the lower resolution lens with a V700 but not sure if the V500 has twin lenses.

I've not used the V500 but I do use the Betterscanning holders and ANR glass. It works fine. The best results can be had by otimizing the film plane height by using the adjusteble holder or shimming the non adjusteble holder. Visit the betterscanning web site for instructions.

I recently bought the medium format, adjustable height version and it works perfectly. It was certainly worth the money. I use it with an Epson 4870.

Hi, im new to this forum but i do have a V500 and a holder from Betterscanning.

About your question, i can say by personal experience that the film will stay flat / flatter than using the standard film holders.

In terms of sharpness i didnt notice much and i did a lot of tests at diferent heights and comparing at the same time with the standard holder.
I have the variable height holder from betterscanning and i found my sweet spot at 4mm height, but compared to 2mm the diference was minimal, i went as close as a 400% magnification or more, i recall i went to pixel size  but that was too much! take a photo os some leters and go from there.

In my oppinion for the V500 the diference in sharping (compared to the original holder)isnt as much as i have read using it on V700 / V750, one thing is a lot better than using the standard holder, the film will stay flat and its very easy to insert the film in the betterscanning holder: just remove the ANR glass, put the film and the glass on top. with the standard holder it looks fragile and it takes a lot more time to put the film into the right position.

I hope i helped somehow.

Cheers

The funny thing is I just received my better photo scanner supplies and plan on using the betterscanning glass in the AM. I am at work now so tomorrow would have to do. I just hope it works as easy as a few have said because I have a lot of film I have to rescan to a smaller size. You see I thought that the larger DPI you scan at was better...NOT.
