better scanning holders. Worth getting the glass?

Greetings all,

I am looking at getting a MF holder from better scanning. Is getting and using the AN glass worth it?

Also, has anyone tried the 35mm AN glass with the stock Epson holders? Is that worth it as well?

Hi

I use the T-locks most of the time, especially when there is pronounced film curl, which the T-locks tame very well. However, some film stocks seem to sag downwards no matter which way you mount them. In these instances, it pays to tape them to a piece of ANR glass. You do need to keep the glass very clean and dust-free though.

I always use betterscanning.com glass on the rare occasions I scan 35mm with the Epson. I also have a custom-cut piece for the OEM 120 holder. (I don't know if the betterscanning glass fits the Epson 120 holder.) Obviously, in the absence of T-locks for the Epson holders, the glass gives a vastly improved scan with curled negs.

Ok, so it might be more beneficial to get the 35mm glass over the 120?

Why not get both?

I use both. They aren't always necessary but they are certainly handy when the film is curly. It is just a way of increasing your options.

Update!

It appears that there is a change to what is being supplied. Instead of T pieces, the holder is now supplied with AN glass only. There is also an adjustment to the price - $139, which includes 2 pieces of glass

I bought the MF holder some time ago and the ANG at the same time, so I can't comment on the worth of the ANG. But my scans with the stock V700 MF holder were terrible; with the Betterscanning holder and ANG glass they are sharp corner to corner. Setting up the carrier is a bit fiddly because of adjusting the height screws, but worth the effort. Yes!
