Find used Nikors. That brand.

The economy ones with black plastic caps will screw you. When they get old, the plastic hardens and when you add the cap in the dark, they silently split center out and when the lights go on, the film is ruined.

Other victims have reported this also.

I am still using Nikors from 1960. As good now as then.

Kinderman if you must buy new today.

I can and have developed 35 in an open 4x5 tank in the dark with a lifting rod.
Works fine if you do it properly. So does a juice container or any number of other containers. They simply are not economical with chemistry.
The 4x5 tank worked for me because I had 4x5 film to do at the same session.
I would not use it otherwise.

love my ss tanks over plastic, (which i've used)... my black plastic better not have any of the problem you've mentioned - it's been 15 years and thy're still going strong!
3 rolls a month, (maybe not a lot) and i've got no complaints
