I love it, too. Not quiet but a good sound, like a Mercedes W126 (1980s S-class).

For SLR's, I've always liked the Pentax Spotmatic models; very smooth, very quiet. Leaf shutters would have to be my Copals on my view camera lenses. I've always thought the shutters on the Yashica Electro 35's were real jewels.

I do not think i have a 35mm that Feels/Sounds bad.
Even my "lowly" Canon AT-1 has an excellent mechanism.
If i HAD to pick one, i guess it would be my Minolta XD-11

I've always liked the sound of the original Canon F-1's shutter. With the back open, it makes a nice =pop= sound when the second curtain hits the first. Muted with the back closed. As for feel, well it feels about right.

I can't say I favour the feel of the shutter release of any of my cameras. My k1000 is decidedly mechanical feeling. My voigtlander bessa makes a snikt like wolverine's claws. My polaroid onestep2 has a nice sounding space aged robotic whine to it. My pinhole camera is by far the quietest and smoothest of the bunch However, I can tell you the worst feeling one I own. My lomo lc-a has a decided "sproing" to it like a spring lets go every time you push that shutter with a very definite metallic sounding reverb. I like the photos I get, but I hate the sound of the thing.

This is exactly the way I feel about the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000! It was a fantastic photographic tool but I couldn't stand the shutter noise.

I do agree that the worst shutter is the Lomo LC-A.

Best is hard to say. Out of all of them I am partial to the sound of a leaf shutter but the feel of the shutter release would have to go to the Zeiss Ikon. The Leica M cameras are very close though.

There are situations when quiet and discreet operation is a very desirable character to have in a camera. The Canonet QL17 isn't all that quiet when compared to other cameras. The quietest camera I've come across is the Braun Paxette. If it weren't for a slight jitter in the viewfinder, I wouldn't know if the shutter release actually took place or not.

Hassleblad don't make a 35,, camera (the Xpan is re-badged) and leaf shutters well they are superb on Yashica GSN/GTM and similat cameras from many manufactures.

For a 35mm SLR you can't better the shutter on a Praktina, and the shutter on my Leica IIIa was in action tonight, still silky smooth, but the Praktina shutter is something else - I have two FX cameras and both are the same almost silent shutters - OK mirror return isn't instant but . . . . . . . . .

The M series Leicas have a wonderful feel, but I really like the solid th-WAK of a Hasselblad, Speed Graphic or Graflex.

Want a solid th-WAK? Try a Bronica S2a! A symphony of th-WAKs! what with the mirror rising, the shutter shuddering, AND the mirror returning! Best warn the little children and calm the horses!

For pure pleasurable audible and tactile pleasure, the crisp click of a Contax IIa shutter. Second place belongs to the swoosh of a Leicaflex. While I like the camera, the least enjoyable shutter belongs to my Fuji GF670 because shutter completely inaudible and cannot be sensed.

Lens quality of the Canon QL-17 GIII is quite good, about the same as the Minolta and Yashica rangefinder cameras from that period. Maybe a little more contrast than the Yashicas, but just barely.

I second that. I love the feel of an M3 or Rolleiflex; but the coolest shutter sound ever is in my opinion Hasselblad. (Sorry, no experience with SG or Graflex) The Nikon F3 is not far behind, though!
