16 bits per color channel in the Leica! We need to understand how the bits are employed differently, to understand what that actually translates to...does 14 v 16bit matter?, if there is a relevant difference in dynamic range between the two. For example, using Leica information...
How does the same product have fewer bits of DR (14 vs 16) yet achieve 1 stop wider dynamic range (15), in the same Leica S typ 007 with difference of 2 bits of width?! One needs insider understanding how the 16-bit standard digital word is actually allocated.
...yeah, and so what would be the explanation for the wide difference in specs for same product (in consective years, 11 months apart?!)
Can we assume the first one was too boastful, and the later one is more realistic?
All this dithering over specs, the sources are not even about the OP's camera, they are for the Leica S 007--a totally different camera with a much larger sensor than the M, and the S2 (the Overgaard reference) has a CCD sensor, not CMOS.

questioning the continuing need for ETTR in view of the wide DR of cameras (yes because 14-bit 20 years ago has not changed, it is still 14-bit)
...spec sheet posted by OP for OP's product, showing 16-bits
speculation about the reality of the number of bits portrayed in above Leica literature, in view of changing and conflicting Leica literature for a different Leica product
...bringing us back to the question #1, if or if NOT that the OP camera spec obviates his need to employ ETTR in his shooting.
