Good Morning,

I have been using a crappie light table for years now, and have finally gotten frustrated enough with it to move on.

I am viewing strictly black and white negs. But what I want is perfect uniformity of intensity and color of light across the viewing area.

Is there a brand out there that stands out as head and shoulders above the rest? At this point I’ll spend the money to get the best.

Thanks for the help
Pete Dendrinos

JUST Normlicht, but it might be overkill for B&W negs.

Has anyone used the ones that Light Impressions has? I saw they had some that were 12 x 18 and was wondering how they stacked up against other brands.

I've seen those, and they are really nice portable units, and should be more than adequate for your use. The Classic Line are the real fancy ones (particularly if you are duping from a light table and need the most uniformity).

The Kaiser and Cabin portable boxes are also very good, but JUST is probably the best in terms of uniformity and color balance.

I use the Cabin panels and I really like them. I have three (two little ones - 4X5 size) and a bigger one which I think is 8X11.5 and comes in a very nice case - it's ideal for presentations. They seems to be flicker free and the color balance appears to be as close to perfect as you could need (I use them when setting color on scans to originals).
