Rodinal!
Or DDX

DD-X is a good choise for this, Rodinal is not. Delta 3200 is really a 1000 ISO film, so you need a slight speed increase. Most "modern" developers will easily give that half stop.

Thankyou !

Hiya,

I would like to sincerely thank all those who responded for their very helpful and profuse advice. I will choose to expose the 3200 at iso 1000 and use Ilford DDX, thankyou again !

I once had a job photographing Los Angeles from a helicopter at an altitude of 300 feet...at night w/ a search light! Probably shot around 2000 rolls of 35mm and 1000 rolls of 120. I took the negs and made 40x50 inch fb prints from them. The client was very concerned about getting the smoothest, most minimal grain possible out of the delta 3200. He also wanted the utmost shadow detail. I tested it in LOTS of different developers including DDX. By far the most superior was Cachet's AB55. It's like a divided D-76 or diafine (which I also tried) but gives better results and w/ more shadow detail. Make sure to mix the A solution at a more concentrated dilution. Personally, I like rodinal 1:100 @ 69 degrees w/ a 75 minute stand development. This yields a much harder grain structure w/ amazing acutance and adjacency effects. You better have a sharp lens though! What a wonderful film it is.

Cachet's AB55.

At what speed were you shooting your Delta 3200?

I've seen AB55 before. It's interesting, they recommend altering the A solution to alter contrast and speed. The same thing could be done with Diafine I believe. You could have dedicated batches of regular, 1.5X, and double strength, etc.

Unless you want everything from zone v on down to dump into pitch darkness, shoot this film at iso 800-1000. Disabuse yourself of the notion that it's anywhere near as fast as it's advertised as being. Although, come to think of it, I hypered it once and noticed a half stop increase in the shadows and for some bizarre reason the grain looked tighter. And yes, you're right about ab55 a solution. I was also able to pull out slightly more contrast w/ ab55 at 74 degrees....any warmer and you get streaking.

PCAT HD semi stand 1+200 for 60 mins rated at 1600, with 1 min agitation at the beginning and 30 secs halfway through. I've also been very impressed with Speedibrews Celer-Mono at 3200-even more shadow detail at 1600-2500 though.

The film does have a true speed of around 1000, but if you really believe it will cause "everything from zone v on down to dump into pitch darkness" at ISO 1600, you are seriously short-changing this film.
