Best Chemistry for Kodak 100 Tmax

Hi, I recently purchased a bulk roll of 100 tmax (expired in 1999). I usually shoot HP5 400 and dev in Rodinal (love the grain). I was just wondering what would be best suited to 100 tmax? What do you use?

D76 at 1:1, but then I would say that.

That's pretty old expired film. Some people like HC-110 for old expired film as it's said to minimize age fog. Take that for what it's worth as I haven't tried it.

D76 of course. I use it full strength in order to use it up (goes off pretty quickly in our place in Florida due to the temps). I'm also lazy, so full strength means there's one less thing I have to measure. I expect your film will be fogged, so maybe you could do a few trials and see just how fogged.

Just developed some HP5 that I shot at 200, and I used D76 full strength for 7 minutes at 68 degrees. Beautiful. This link will give you some ideas.

It might be better to use energetic developer for as short as possible development. HC 110 dil. B 24C (75F) it is only 5.5 min.

Depends what you like. Xtol 1:1 is what I'd recommend.

Or FX-39 or FX-37. Vanbar sells FX-39 atm iirc too.

I would just use salt and pepper.....

If this was stored in reasonable conditions, I bet you won't be able to detect anything wrong with it. Please post results.

just not pepper, it sticks to emulsion.

Yes but the FX39 is very old, some even has a 2005 expiry date.

I have shot 96 stock with no problems. I use D76 1+1 exclusively for all my TMX100. I am not sure why anyone would use anything else?

I've also used both the Aculux-3 and LP Docufine without ill result.

They all seem to be fine actually, except Rollei RLS I think it was (or one of those ones RLC, RLS, RHS, cant remember which), there were a few dud bottles of it iirc, probably bad batch.

I think I'll go with the Rodinal for ease of use and I have some in my cupboard. I'll post my results. Also I will make sure to dilute the pepper and use some Photoflo afterwards

I shot 1990 expired TMax 100 in 2005/2006, and that film keeps remarkably well, particularly if stored well. Whatever developer you normally use should be fine. If against all reason the film should be fogged beyond reason, your choice of developer isn't going to matter much. Run a test roll, just to make sure the film is OK, before you photograph anything important.
