Hi all,
Can anyone here recommend a good negative and positive film processing lab around the Minneapolis, Minnesota area?
I tried a couple of places. One seems to get everything(color, contrast etc.) right except it has a very digital look to it. He was using Noritsu machine.
I know most labs now use digital processing in the printing process for film, but this is too obvious. For example in the US flag instead of pure white on the stripe it has some very slight red tint bled through from the red stripe. This is too bad because the person who is doing the printing is a real photographer and know how to fine tune the print.
The other one has different color cast each time I print it(I was using new rolls of film).
Is fuji lab better than noritsu lab in general?

Thank you

The digital scanning printing process should not cause the bleeding of colors you mention, regardless of the brand of printer. However, I have seen some films that exhibit this, and of course the print process would show this. You don't say what films you are using..and then of course, there is the issue of how well the chemical processing lines for the films are maintained at the labs you use.

The issue of a "different color cast each time you have a print made" is an example of poor system control, and inadequate operator skill. Do you provide a sample to match to, when you have reprints made? This is the only way to get a critical match. Most operators only look to get a good skin tone. There is no "standard" balance, and each and every color film needs a different balance, or "channel" on the printer.

Haven't done C41 in many years so can't comment there. For E6 sheet and roll film processing I have been very happy with ProColor (now partnered with Albinson Reprographics) at 1401 Glenwood Ave. in Minneapolis. Also have had mostly good experiences with Linhoff Photo, 44th and France in Edina.

I'm not sure about the chemical processing. But he said he replace the chemicals every day, if this is what you meant.
